A base theology from creation through eternity.

Revealed in three passages of Holy Scipture.

* Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."

* Isaiah 65:17, "For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind."

* Revelation 21:1, "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea."

How many heavens did God create as stated in Genesis 1:1, one or two or three?
First heaven = atmosphere of earth
Second heaven = space where the moon, sun, and stars hang out.
Third heaven = the abode of God

My understanding is the three. The Heaven of heavens. Space-time. Earth's atmosphere.

Thanks for actually answering the question, I certainly agree with the two features of our universe, but since God existed before anything was made, one characteristic of God may be He exists within His eternal abode. Pure speculation on my part.

But it is useful when we see "heaven" or "heavens" to consider whether one, two or three are in view. I think Genesis one is certainly referring to at least two of the three.

Well, considering God Himself is the omnipresent reality, He Himself would constitute His eternal abode.

This is quite interesting. From what has already been said it has been demonstrated that God if in fact is transcendent (even if un-intended). That is, God transcends time (and of course space), and being outside of time (see Gen. 1:1 and contemplate for further thought) He would in fact "constitute His eternal abode" to quote 37818. This would also in fact demonstrate that time itself is part of His creation since He transcends it, I would think. That goes in line with Norman Geisler's reasoning that time had to have a starting point or today wouldn't have gotten here yet. What an awesome God we have!
