Several on this board have major complaints about the US.

Unless everything is to their liking 100% they will never be satisfied.

So what should these folks do. I would assume they should take up citizenship in another county.

But which country would you suggest?

    A) for the extreme left?

    B) for the extreme right?

Note: comments such as - but if this country would.... -is not acceptable - all I request is to answer the OP question.

Funny. Now that I think about it , I have never heard a conservative say that they would leave the country if...say for instance...Obama was re-elected.

But I heard many leftists say they would move out of the country if G.W. Bush was re-elected.

    Entertainers, in particular.

I think you're fishing in a dry hole for a place conservatives would go. They seem to want to fight for what they believe. And do it here.

Leftists are the ones that talk about bailing.

What country? God's :) but to the question, years ago someone told me of a large remote valley in Canada accessible only by horse (maybe chopper) where people were allowed to homestead - probably full by now though so will probably stay here. Still seems the best though Ireland has a bit of a draw.

Not saying they have actually said they would leave - but some extremists, all they do is complain about every thing about this country. It would seem that they might be happier somewhere else. Can you think of anyone like that, even on this board.?

Only if you like a country where the US Democratic Party would be centre right :).

I love it here, but it is not the politics.

Petrol runs about $8 a gallon
You pay about $200 a year for the privilege of owning a TV
There is a 'road tax' which is about $2000 a year for my two cars
There is a value added tax of about 20% on most purchases

But it is a pretty place and most of the people are lovely :)

That's just the point I am trying to make.
People complain so much about the USA - yet -would they want such conditions here - yes things could be worse. So for those who do nothing but complain - why don't you go live in Ireland for a year or two. C4K would love to have you attend his church service.

By the way C4K - that $200 for a TV is that per set or per household - also any tax on owning a radio? ( there was in Germany)
Yes, gas was high in Germany and there was the VAT. As a US Service Member the SOFA allowed us to buy 50-100 gallons of gas per month (based on engine size) tax free - after that we would have to pay the high German gas tax. We did have to pay the VAT (except in the PX and Commissary). There was a provision that we could be exempt from the VAT for large purchases, but there was a lot of paperwork - so unless your purchase was at least $100- it just wasn't worth it.

I would suggest they try living in another country for six months or a year. The would come back knowing this is a much better place to live than they thought. A little travel gives a big education.

And that my brother, we fully agree

I visited East Berlin for just one day - and in that short time - I knew I would never want to live under communism.

    Sweden. Socialist heaven.

Singapore. Law and order to the extreme. You can get caned for spitting on the sidewalk.

There have been riots in Sweden, very recently, over necessary austerity measures. All is not well, there.

Prostitution is legal, and run by the state. But drugs are a most definite no-no. They do enforce their laws, but when I spent a week there, in 1981, it was stunningly beautiful. Very nice place.

That's not true at all. Recent injustices are swiftly mounting, and it is to those that conservatives are reacting.

I agree that there are things than need fixing.

But I was referring to extremists.

And visiting for a week or two as a tourist does not count.

Sure it helps gain a bit of knowledge of that country. Visiting is nothing like living, grocery shopping, having to find your own transportation and meeting people from that country.

How much would a person learn of the US during a 2 week visit vs. living here 6 months or a year?

Let's get real and tell the truth. Many southern states led by far right extremists have actually threatened to secede from the union. Do you deny that or should I bring up some proof of that?

As a social democrat, I freely acknowledge other countries do better than us in many areas of policy. At the same time as a patriot I prefer to remain here to improve my country.

Exactly who are the Extremists - those you mentioned in the South or those inside the Beltway .....

In addition there are efforts underway in Calif and NY to secede from the "City-State" - ie LA, SF, ect in Calif; and NY City of New York. Are those who do not want to be ruled improperly within those states be considered Extremists?
