A Church that Accepts Much

I'm just curious about opinion on "liberal" minded denominations, in particular the United Church of Canada. Those unfamiliar with it, basically it is denomination that allows gay ministers, accepts abortions, and tends to like a gender neutral Bible such as the NSRV. It is the biggest church of protestant believers in Canada.

Anyway, do you consider those believers or people from this church brothers and sisters in Christ? Do you feel this church is evil and not Christian? Personally, I don't have a feeling on the issue at this time, but would like some views.

I have some new neighbors that are apart of that church.

I think that there are Christians in those kinds of denominations, but I wouldn't consider the denomination to be a faithful denomination. The use of the NRSV doesn't bother me; it's the denial of basic Christian doctrine.

I don't know what to say about the church, really, other than that I would not advise anyone to attend services at such a church, nor would I cooperate with them in religious matters.

I would agree with Stefan. We can't just assume that there are no believers within the church, but the things you mentioned make me wonder what else they are compromising on.
So if you get the chance to talk about God with your neighbors, and the conversation is open to it, you might ask what they believe about salvation.
It might be a good witnessing time, or it could just add to your understanding of what the church is teaching.

I would not consider this Church to be Christian. I agree with Stefan as well. I would consider a Church who accepts evil to be evil, personally.

Brother and Sisters in Christ yes! Fellowship possibly, but I would not partner with that kind of a church. By that I mean one who disregards Scriptural teaching. By partnering I meant ministry wise.

The problem with liberal churches is that you can never tell if they actually believe their statements of faith. I mean . . . John Shelby Spong was a bishop in the Episcopal Church, and if you look at their ordination rituals and their creeds, you find that Spong did not "tow the line" so to speak.

The same is true of conservative and fundamentalist churches. Uniformity with doctrinal statements is not guaranteed there either.

My first question to you is, are you a christian or not?

I have full intentions of being straight forward in this post assuming you are a born again, Christ following christian.

    **Personal insult removed**

**Personal insult removed**Anyone who would go to a church like that and remain there has to be totally decieved by satan or is just plain ignorant.

If I seem harsh then oh well ***Pesonal insult removed***

If you are just posting hear to see what kind of response you would get for a question like that then as soon as you get done reading this post you need to immediately repent for your sins and beg God's forgiveness and then maybe you will have the answer to your own question.

Moderator's note: Posters be aware of rules of engagement---in this case---being aware of Baptist Board rules # 3 & 4 of which when you joined this board you agreed to abide by. Show grace to the posters, please!!

fatbacker, Marco became a Christian over the past month I believe.

If you are going to ream on someone, take me on instead. I've been a Christian for over 20 years and am very aware of the typical Baptist view of the United Church of Canada and other uniting churches like the United Church of Christ.

Well geeeeeeee Gold Dragon, I or any other new believer I have met in my 17 years of being saved ever had the problem of being able to distinguish between that much evil in one spot or anywhere for that matter. Most of us know it is wrong well before we even get saved!! It is called having the Holy Spirit's guidance.

I believe the Holy Spirit is guiding me to discern evil right now as well.

And I am not reaming anyone I am saying take a stand and have an opinion or walk away now. I read so many people that just want to give some intellectual answer to something instead of just coming out and say open your eyes or in the long run you will pay dearly for your blindness. I have seen way to many people on this board who just by reading their posts time after time that they are very liberal themselves and stand up for little of anything except their own opinion.

I would also like to add that I have been in a similar situation as Marco as a new believer and knew beyond any doubt that the church was anti-God, I am saying there is no excuse not to have an opinion no matter how long you have been saved.

The same is true of conservative and fundamentalist churches. Uniformity with doctrinal statements is not guaranteed there either. </font>[/QUOTE]This is true, but the denial of the essentials of Christianity is far more common in the liberal churches. Generally, if a church in a conservative denomination openly denies the statement of faith, something happens. I've not seen this happen as often in liberal churches.

Perhaps Marco is merely trying to seek advice from his brothers and sisters in the faith before he decides anything. I applaud him for his reservations about making any statements before consulting others who might be more knowledgeable.

Spiritual maturity doesn't occur overnight (I sure could use the overnight deal!), so please bear with Marco.

Hey RSR let me ask you a question. Do you think every response has to be some watered down round about reply? Wow, I guess we are not supposed to give any bold replies to anyone.

I suggest we all just make sure we do not offend anyone with any reply we give that would be so tragic to give a shot in the arm to someone once in awhile.

Maybe if we as christians were not so affraid to stand up and speak the truth then this country would not be such a mess. It is the christians passive attitude that has allowed this country to decay into moral chaos. OOOOOHHHH but I cannot offend anyone with God's word. Saying it like it is would be tragic!!!!!!! People might not like it.

    What ever.

If what Marco says about that church is true then the only advice he needs is whether or not the bible says it is okay StefanM. Again I see antother passive baptist who cannot make a decision based soley on the bible. I do not need anyones advice wise or not to know that church is way off base and anti God.You keep applauding those who would rather get human advice then God's biblical advice StefanM
