Steven, I've never heard of a Bible like the one you describe. (I personally prefer all the words of the Bible in black; that leaves me to interpret who is saying what, rather than someone else doing it for me -- and black print is easier on my eyes than red.)

 

The Bible should be in black and white but read all over.

I agree completely. There are a number of places in scripture, for instance, some parts of the Gospel of John, where it is nearly impossible to discern whether Jesus is speaking or John is providing commentary and explanation.

I don't even like headers and separated sections very much since they quietly influence interpretation. One of the classic examples of how the addition of a paragraph in English translations changes the interpretation is in Ephesians 5:21-6:9. In Paul's writing and thought, this is all one section. Yes English translations traditionally start a new paragraph between 5:21 and 5:22, which disconnects the admonition to "be subject to one another" in 5:21 from the follow-up in 5:22, literally, "wives to your husbands," since the verb "be subject to" is actually in 5:21. Ephesians 5:22-6:9 is simply Paul illustrating the principle found in 5:21. This has let to all sorts of interpretations putting women in subjection to men, but not vice-versa, that still plagues us today.

Before the King James Easy-Reading Study Bible printed in Goodyear, Arizona, by G. E. M. Publishing in 2002 and the King James Easy-Reading Study Bible printed in Humbolt, Tennessee, by Kings Word Press in 2006, there was the King James Bible Red Lettered [Special Study Edition] in Palm Beach in Florida. It used red lettering in both the Old and New Testaments. It also used capitalization of pronouns used for God. It had no printing date, but it was likely printed in the 1980's or 1990's. It may no longer be in print since the later Bibles may have replaced it. A KJV defender had had it printed.

 

I don't know how you interpreted what I wrote as somehow casting doubt on the inspiration of scripture, but I wasn't doing that nor is that the point.

For proper interpretation of scripture, it is often important to know who is saying what so you know how to interpret what is said. A red letter edition punts the responsibility of interpretation regarding the words of Jesus to someone else. Moreover, in situations where one cannot be certain as to who is speaking, such as the previously mentioned example of the Gospel of John (John 3 is particularly difficult), red letter additions falsely add certainty where there should be ambiguity.

 

The common mistake one makes in using a red letter bible is that some assume that the words of Jesus are more inspired than rest of the bible...

 

I don't know anyone who's ever made that claim / mistake. Seriously.
