“Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” ~ Romans 5:1
This is a glorious text of Scripture that encapsulates the entirety of the Gospel message. First of all, it is God that justifies the sinner. The gift of faith granted to the sinner by God is the sole instrument of his justification. It is through our faith alone in the finished work of Christ Jesus that we appropriate our justification. Being justified is the act of being declared righteous in the eyes of God. But it is not your own righteousness that makes you clean. It is a foreign righteousness imputed to you and on your behalf. And it is by and through the imputation of Christ’s own righteousness that we come to have peace with God. In our natural condition, man is at enmity with God. Our carnal state is predisposed towards those things which oppose the Lord. The heart, left to itself, is desperately wicked. Reconciliation and peace with God only comes through the Cross. It only comes through believing in what He has done for us. Always remember dear reader - peace with God comes at a price. Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith, paid that price. Believe on Him today.
