Well here it is. A man arguing that because the Bible does not specifically forbid the use of magnets in warding off demons then it should be allowed.

Now, how far does your hermeneutic go? Can it go this far? How could you argue otherwise?

    --------------------------------

The above is the post as it originally appeared, but since I'm bringing this back to the top, and since the link is now invalid, I should give a little more background.

This fella popped up and had a lengthy post written about how to use magnets to ward off demons. He was challenged to provide Scriptural evidence and simply said it was no where prohibited.

Seeing that argument used countless times by those campaigning for the completely uninhibited use of all kinds of music in the worship of Christ, I thought I would see how they would react.

None of them attempted to make a case against magnets vs demons. (Indeed, it would have undone all their own arguments.)

Wow. Just when you thought one of Aaron's arguments couldn't be more irrelevant than the one about BMW's door chimes . . . this.

Then let me rephrase it... :D

Those of you who say that certain styles of music are not expressly forbidden and therefore should be allowed, how can you argue against magnets vs demons?

    Or do you?

    Aaron-
Maybe, I just don't get it. Jesus did model a way to drive out demons. He also gave authority to the Apostles to drive out demons. Since we have instruction on this wouldn't extra-Biblical instruction be ineffective? With music and worship there is little in the New Testament to give us as specific instruction as with driving out demons. Perhaps, I am missing a connection between the two?

Aaron: are you just "yanking our chains" with your BMW and magnet posts? These are genuine LOL's for all who read. Thanks for the great entertainment! Is this what happens when one gets a co-moderatorship?

Dr. Bob...what are we going to do with him?

I'd probably post a whole bunch of irrelevant threads and questionable "scientific" studies to the magnets forum. [IMG]

There are no verses about using magnets to get rid of the devil. We are told:

quote:
Ephesians 5:19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,

Just because you don't like our songs, doesn't mean we can't praise Him anway.

quote:
James 5:13 Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise

But, Lorelei, where are the admonitions to use instruments?

    Hezekiah 9:15-17

"Thou shalt sing praises to His name. Thou shalt play instruments made of string for strumming. There shall be an instrument made of wood and animal skin to ensure the singers and players of instruments have the correct measure. Praises shall be heard for great distances for the music will be amplified greatly before the heavens. And all those in the congregation will dance in celebration" [IMG]

    From the New Testament?

I could just as easily yank some verses from the OT that tell us to worship with lamps, incense and animals.

Yes, isn't it wonderful that Christ's once for all sacrifice has freed us from the Ceremonial Law. That this morning, when I woke up I could go directly to my Heavenly Father, worship Him and tell Him of my concerns without making a sacrifice, burning incense, or going to a priest. Isn't that what is greatest things about being a Christian, that we're free from all of that ritual and Ceremony. That we have direct access to our Lord God Creator because of His sacrifice of His Son.

Indeed. And Musical instruments were part of that ritual, pomp and ceremony.

Aaron, I'm having a heck of a time trying to decipher what you are saying! I have read/reread/re-reread this thread, and I am unable to decide if your position is:
1 It is in the OT, but not in the NT, so it's wrong!

    OR

2 It is in the OT, but not in the NT, but there are no prohibitions against it, so it's O K!

Seems to me I've seen both premises advocated by you!

Now I'm fighting a dratted sinus drainage that has got my head & throat hurting from coughing so much, so this just may be MY grossly mis-interpreting your posts, & if so please forgive & overlook!

I was going to cut/paste a few of your quotes to show my take, but I could not get the order gelled enough to do so; another reason that I feel that it may just be me!

    Anyway clarification will be appreciated!

    Peace,

Many posts ago an argument was made in favor of CCM on the basis of "Scriptural silence."

So I posted a link to an argument in the favor of magnets vs demons on the same basis, then challenged them to make their cases against it.

    That's all.

As pertaining to the OT, no, the modes of worship are not transferable to the NT.

Nowhere were all instruments said to be apart of the ritual/ceremony.
