If being a Southern Baptist doesn't fit you lifestyle choices, just start your own denomination and make it fit.

    Former Presidents Carter & Clinton
call for 'A New Baptist Covenant’

    Jan 10, 2007
    By Erin Roach
    Baptist Press

ATLANTA (BP)--Former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton have proposed the establishment of a broadly inclusive alternative Baptist movement to counter what they called a negative image of Baptists and to address poverty, the environment and global conflicts.

Carter and Clinton kicked off their plans with a news conference Jan. 9 at the Carter Center in Atlanta, flanked by leaders of moderate Baptist groups including the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, a breakaway group of an unverified number of churches that objected to the election of conservative leaders in the Southern Baptist Convention. Carter and Clinton announced a “Celebration of a New Baptist Covenant,” tentatively set for Jan. 30-Feb. 1, 2008, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, which they hope will attract 20,000 Baptists.

Carter left the SBC years ago, he's just trying to start another Baptist sect that'll think Jesus wanted the Israelies driven out to sea as he does.

What Clinton's got to do with all this, I have no idea. I thought he was a United Methodist, that's liberal enough, ought to slow him down, guess it's lonely on the Religious Left.

Clinton used to be a member of Immanuel Baptist (SBC) in Little Rock, AR. I don't know what he is now.

Until he starts to act like a Christian, it doesn't really matter.

Just like the rest of the "Politically Correct" society, "Let's redefine Baptist so that it fits what we want, instead of either agreeing with what a Baptist is, or finding something else that I can agree with."

If your belief system doesn't line up with what is historically Baptist, then you are not a Baptist, and should find a group that does fit your belief system. Too many people are trying to force their own ideas onto the Baptist name.

Either be a real Baptist, or be something else.

Maybe their group of Baptists can act as a magnet, and draw all the liberal baptists into one group.....

Wouldn't that be nice... round up all the liberal Baptists so they won't infect the rest of us?

And then if we could get them to call themselves something other than Baptist, just for clarity's sake.

I did hear that Clinton wants to shorten the 10 commandments to 9.

Carter Center board members rebuke Carter’s leadership

ATLANTA (BP)--Two days after launching his bid to lead a new Baptist movement, Jimmy Carter’s leadership of the Carter Center was rejected by 14 members of his advisory board.

The 14 advisory board members at the former president’s human rights center resigned in protest Jan. 11, citing Carter's controversial book, "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid," and his lopsided advocacy for the Palestinian cause, The Wall Street Journal has reported.

Carter and former President Bill Clinton announced their initiative Jan. 9 to unite moderate and liberal Baptists along issues that align with the Democratic Party’s political agenda. A proposed 2008 confab, “Celebration of a New Baptist Covenant,” will coincide with a U.S. presidential election year when Clinton’s wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D.-N.Y.), is a possible candidate.

The advisory board resignations are the latest departures of key figures from the Carter Center, founded by the former president and his wife on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta.

In December, Kenneth Stein, one of the Carter Center’s Middle East fellows and director of Emory’s Institute for the Study of Modern Israel, resigned claiming that the book was "clearly handicapped" by its failure to provide unvarnished analysis of the Middle East and also by its lack of Hebrew and Arabic sources.

Stein, who claimed that portions of the book also were invented or based on faulty recollections, was the Carter Center’s first executive director and a former aide to Carter during his administration........

Maybe call themselves the Anti Baptists, but based on posts on here they could become a formidable voting block for the left, which I'm sure they're hoping.

Carter doesn't want Israel driven to the sea that is an overstatement and gross simplification of his position, Clinton has repented of his sin, not unlike King David. There isn't a "right" way to be a Baptist, we are a diverse group with many opinions and differences.

I mean no offense but any religion that espouses the viewpoints of these two, will be evil to the core. To me the core issue in religion, is how do you treat the unborn.

Interesting, not that I agree but an interesting point of view nonetheless. What about the living, do they get any attention?

The core issue to me is what is their view on the sanctity of life. A good measure of that value is based in the abortion issue. There would be many many more issues, one of which is their treatment of Israel.

Clinton said what he did with Miss Lewinsky was "inapropriate".

Picking your nose at your wedding is "inapropriate". He hasnt repented to my knowledge. Clinton has no real values and he has no credibility. Since when does Clinton stand in the background? Yet in this case he does so in every public appearance with Carter. It appears he realizes that he has no credibility.

Carter has never said to my knowledge that he wants Israel run into the sea. But he supports those who have said so. It doesnt matter how much land Israel gives up it will never be enough and they will always war with Israel. Just talk to them on the street in America. They are very bold about this. Arabs in America are not shy about their disdain for Israels existance in that region period.

I never met a liberal Baptist until I joined the BB. All the Baptists I ever knew, thousands of them, believed as I do, about nearly everything.

Carter & Clinton are BINOs - Baptists In Name Only - IMHO.

Interesting religion, but nothing to do with Christianity. A Hindu or Buddhist can have that value.

The core issue in Christianity is "what do you do with Jesus"?
