Very recently published by Revell (a division of Baker) this is not actually a new translation, but rather it is a slightly modified form of the GOD'S WORD text. The general editor is author Ann Spangler (one of her books is entitled Praying the Names of God) --
The Names of God Bible restores more than 10,000 occurrences of specific names of God--like Yahweh, El Shadday, El Elyon, and Adonay--to help readers connect with the Hebrew roots of their Christian faith and experience a deeper understanding of God's character.
Besides inserting the Hebraic names there are additional features that emphasize the names of God. You can find out more here --

Should Christians be interested in something like this? Why or why not? Are the names used in a Bible text of great importance?

Yes.

There is a great deal of spiritual value in understanding the character of God revealed by His various names.

Yes, they often add depth to a story that is missed when one does not see the names in print or translated.

I would prefer a Bible that has the actual Hebrew name then a definition of the name in the margin.
