Who has time to get away for a retreat?

I've never even had a vacation, and I've been here 14 years! :tongue3:

 

Tim that looks wonderful. It is important for not just those in ministry to take a break but everyone. I had a pastor once tell me: "we need to come apart and rest a while lest we come apart!" I agree.

I would love to stay there some time it looks great. Maybe next furlough? Would love to meet you and your family as well.

My family and I leave for vacation on Tuesday. We need it. It has been a long time and we have not had a rest since moving to Argentina. I am looking forward to it.

 

One purposely makes time. I do so for not just for me personally but for the sake of my wife and kids. We need to take a step back and just be a family. I recommend you try it.

After all the travel we did "professionally," there is no attraction to a vacation, and other than driving 53 miles away to see two of our three grandkids, my reaction to the idea of taking a vacation is "not without a court order..."

I was a manager in the largest company in America in its kind of business and the company required us top take a vacation each year. When employees came back from vacation we always notice a positive difference.

 

Interesting. I posted something very similar and it was rashly and falsely accused of being spam or advertising and needlessly closed.

 

Tinytim left out a few important details, so let me fill you in from a woman's perspective.

Pocadots and I and our girls went there last summer for vacation. There are many--ahem--bugs, mice, snakes, and other "critters" as well as wildlife. If you want to go hiking, please be advised that this is West Virginia and our hills get very steep, so wear good boots. Or, you could do like Tinytim's wife and I do, read in the hammock and let the menfolk and kids go hiking.

It is very secluded, with the nearest grocery store being many miles away. There is one tiny restaurant a few miles away, but it does serve good food. The locals will watch you while you eat. Don't let it disturb you. They are harmless, just hard up for entertainment.

Wear helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads for the last 10 miles or so before you get there. Our WV roads have potholes big enough to swallow your car. Those that don't will rattle your teeth out of your head. (And here y'all thought we didn't use toothbrushes here.)

Anyway, if you like total seclusion, no phone or even cell service, no tv, no computer, and no HUMAN interruptions, this is the place for you. If, however, your womenfolk prefer civilization, fast food, and a mall, you might want to take a group of men from the church instead. . .:tongue3:

I though one could identify a West Virginian by the fact that one leg is longer than the other because they stand on hills all day. Last time I drove through WV I almost hit a farmer in the middle of the road... he had fallen out of his field.:tongue3:

I can deal with secluded on a limited biases, such as a week, after that my city-loving self wants to return to the modern world.

I will never complain about roads in the US again after living here. Seriously, I have been in WV a lot, and I grew up in MI which has some of the worst roads in the nation, but neither of those compare to our roads here.

Well I know you can tell if a West Virginian man is married if there are tobacco juice stains on both sides of his pick-up. :tongue3:

 

Maybe some of us defensive drivers should vacation down there for a week. We'd learn a lot.:tongue3:

 

Come on down, we will teach how to drive aggressively. :laugh: Right know it is breezy in the 80s and sunny and the ocean has a nice agua-marine color to it. :thumbs:
