I think it'll all blow over by the end of the year, after Halloween.
My observation is that before and after Halloween, these kinds of shows rise up like leaven.

But I had to become a free member to read the page.

and my New York Times membership data straight???

I didn't have to Ed! I guess I'm just special :D

Thanks for posting the story though. It is quite interesting!

"occult" and "magic" are words we stick on bad guys but mean the same as "spiritual" and "miracle." Just as demigod is functionally the same as angel.

That wasn’t the case a few years ago. In the aftermath of 9/11 many series tried to tap into what appeared to be a religious renewal.

There wasn't a "religious renewal" after 9/11. People were scared and went to church. Not to serve and follow God but to use God. Even though no one can use God, they can be used of God.

It's the "genie complex." I need something so I will go back to church and see if God will grant me this wish. God is not a genie. I wish people would get that through their hard heads.

I doubt a quarter of the people that had a "religious" awakening after 9/11 are still going to church or going regularly.

None of these shows found the kind of mass audience that turned “Touched by an Angel” into a major hit from 1994 to 2003. Networks returned to the more rewarding topics of sex and violence. Now, however, they are adding a touch of the paranormal.

Again, the networks thought they had something that would sell.
They had a hit with one the rest failed. So, they went back to what sells to the world. :(
