My mom's church supported a home called Camp Tracy. I remember when I still went to that church a couple of times some of the girls had come over and gave testimonies and sang songs.
It's a home for difficult children, basically. They get schooling while there and they work on the farm. It's an option for parents who can't handle their children, basically, and I guess they try to teach them the error of their ways. My dad threatened to send me there or somewhere like it a time or two when I was a teenager.
Now I don't know anything else about it other than what my mom told me, but she says the government is shutting it down because it says the camp can't make the children work or teach them the Bible.
If that is true, it's just stupid. Children need a good work ethic instilled in them, and I wish I hadn't been so lazy and keen to get out of work as a kid! It makes things a lot harder now that I'm an adult.
But then I also did an internet search to see if I could find any news articles on this, and I found some claiming there was sexual abuse going on there...
But IDK. Sheesh, anything can be claimed on the internet. Especially on a discussion forum, like anything I found specifically about this camp was. (I saw that someone also posted in one of those threads saying he had been there for a couple years and the sexual abuse cases were made up by some of the boys there so they could leave and that essentially what everyone else was saying is false, too. Hm, interesting. But again, anything can be claimed on the internet.)
They also claimed that the place is a cult and the children don't get schooled while there, and I know that's not true. They don't attend a public school, but from what I've been heard from children who have been there, they are made to study a curriculum; essentially, they are homeschooled.
