Hitler & his buddies crafted the "Enabling Act", which gave almost-absolute power to the Chancellor (Hitler) to make laws without involving the Reichstag. Hitler had already persuaded the aging Hindenburg it was necessary to quickly set things right & end the chaos. Hitler & his buddies then courted the RCC, making them promises (which they didn't intend to keep) in exchange for their voting for the Act.

With the RCC Reichstag delegates' votes, the Enabling Act was passed, & Hindenburg sighned it into law. Hitler & crew wasted no time with their "reforms", among which was stripping the authority of the RCC & confiscating most of their German property. Hitler kept Hindenburg happy by suppressing the "Brownshirts" in June 1934, replacing them with the SS, which was totally-loyal to Hitler. When Hindenburg died Aug. 1934, Hitler assumed the presidency, making his rule over Germany absolute in human terms.

We should study & heed those events, as I believe the coming "beast" will ascend to power in like manner, with a lotta help from the RCC, after which he will turn on it, as shown in Rev. 17. We won't be able to do anything about it, but it should spur us to preach the Gospel harder than ever, as the rapture will then be at hand.

You mean the Catholic Church actually had control of members of the Reichstag and could make them vote the way they wanted? I don't know who is the worst with posting such nonsense, you or Yeshua. This is garbage of the highest order.

Now for some truth. The allies of the Nazi's in Germany just prior to 1933 was the DNVP, known as the German Natioal People's Party. It was an alliance of nationalists, reactionary monarchists, volkisch, and anti-Semitic elements supported by the Pan-German League. While some might have been Catholic, my guess is that most of them were probably of the Lutheran tradition (this being Germany after all) or of no faith at all.

After Hitler seized power after being appointed Chancellor, the Nazis unleashed a campaign of violence and terror against their opposition, first against the Communists and then the Social Democrats.

Then it was the Center Party's turn (here are the Catholics), who had their publications banned and Center Party members who held offices were dismissed from their positions. Hitler's storm troopers also violently attacked them during party meetings. (So much for the Catholics being the allies of the Nazis).

So basically all we have here from you is nothing but lies, more lies all wrapped up in just another anti-Catholic diatribe.

And let's not forget that Hitler interacted with Eugenio Pacelli, who bacame pope Pius XII, often lying to him. Pius saw through some, but not all, the lies.

The RCC is guilty of enough things that we don't hafta add "Friend of nazis" to the list.

But with this post you sure seem like you want to add the RCC to the list of being friends with the Nazis. Really, what is the point of threads like this? That stuff is in the past, it's over, and all those people who were involved are long dead.

The RCC was specifically pointed out here by you, so all I can see is your continued hatred of the Catholic Church which can to my mind be the only reason you bring this crap up.

Jesus said to love, to forgive others, so perhaps you need to re-evaluate your walk with him. Hatred for others is not going to stand you in a positive way with Jesus on the day you come up for your life review.

You Baptists always tell us that it's about context, so even in this case there was nothing cut and dried as to how and why the Enabling Act was passed.

First of all, Hitler was forced on the German nation as Chacncellor. In the July elections of 1932 the Nazis won 230 seats and along with the Communists and that came to having over half the seats in the Reichstag. It was in the next round of elections where the Nazis actually lost seats did the agreement between the industrialists, ex chancellor Von Papan, and the conservative DNVP party finally convince President von Hindenburg to nam Hitler the chancellor.

Once Hitler had power, a two thirds majority was needed to pass laws ( Hitler still showed the facade of working within the system) so the support of the Center Party (enter the Catholics) was needed. Hitler at that time was not seen as the ruthless dictator he would eventually become, so the Center Party decided to work with him because the alternative was a continuing governing instability because of all the different factions.

So in exchange for assurances concerning freedom for Christians, the Center Party did indeed work with Hitler to pass the law. The law was passed (thanks in part to intimidation tactics by the SA) by a margin of 444 to 84, with only the Social Democrats dissenting.

In hindsight this was a terrible blunder for the non-Nazi deputies to have voted for the Act. This law allowed Hitler to rule by decree without parliamentary approval and this in the end would prove disastrous for the German people. The Catholic politicians were not big supporters of the Nazis by any means, but did what they did within the system to make it work and to achieve their goal of continued liberty for Christians.

Like Hitler would lie to the Western powers about his desire for world peace later in the decade, he lied to his own people in those early years. Very quickly dissenters were then targeted - including Catholics, Lutherans, and people with no faith at all.
