A Reason Abortion Isn't a Black & White Issue

While I understand and respect the idea of banning late-term abortion, there can be unintended consequences. Below is a link to a story about Potter's Syndrome, where the fetus is horribly crushed to death by the mother's organs because of a lack of amnionic fluid. The child has no chance...zero...of being born alive, and will suffer a horrible, lingering death by being crushed and miscarried. Issues like these are an example of why complex issues are not always right or wrong. Is it right to let an innocent child suffer such a fate? I am not claiming to have the answers, but bring this up to demonstrate the complexities of such issues, and why they should remain the option of the mother, her family, and the doctors. I am for less government in this area, leaving medical decisions closest to the patient and not made by some legislators who don't know the situation or the people involved. Life isn't always easy choices. I urge you to read the brief story before commenting.

So you come down to the side of a painful death of having its brains sucked out which resolves nothing. This horrific procedure is the worst kind of human rights violation.

It really is black and white. If you think it is murder to take a child's life after they are born then it is murder to do so before they are born. They are a distinct seperate human being from their mother. They have their own DNA and, from the moment of conception, they are human.

The problem comes when you think of the fetus as less human than babies outside the womb and think of them as just another part of the mother's tissues.

For me, anyway, it all falls into place when you realize that your unborn baby is just as real and alive and unique as the baby you can hold in your arms.

I would say in this instance, it is not merely a case of an unwanted pregnancy. But even in a situation like this, it's still a descision parents have to make very, very carefully. My first doctor told me to get a reduction, based soley on my height and weight. He told me all kinds of horrible things that would be the fate of my children if I didn't. I saw another specialist, who told me he would make sure everything turned out just fine. I had very few complications, and my children were born perfectly healthy.

IF you are talking about late term, what ever happen to the C section procedure? All medical procedures should be a private matter between the Dr and family. There is no gray area in this case, this is a private medical matter and not a "get rid of the accident" abortion. This is a prayerful matter that the family should first pray about for wisdom and peace for their decision.

Killing the child prematurely denies God the opportunity to perform a miracle.

No one keeps statistics on how often the real God intervenes when physicians stop playing God.

What percentage of the time is this "syndrome" evident? It's rare. In fact, it's very rare. Needless to say the over whelming number of partial birth abortions are not for medical reasons and MP knows that. They are for other reasons the vast majority of the time. And, in such cases it's murder and the government should be in the business of protecting life not giving her citizens the right to murder under the guise of choice. Shame on anyone who would condone this evil procedure under the guise of a rare medical condition.

One July, my nephew and his wife found out they were expecting a child. In September they were told that their second child had no brain wave, no heart beat, and was already dead in the womb. In October, a wonderful young lady was born (prematurely by nearly 3 months). That was nearly eleven years ago! Racheal is doing quite well for someone who was dead in the womb!

IMHO, abortion is ALWAYS wrong. There are other medical options (C-section has been mentioned) to protect both the mother and the unborn child.

Another niece of mine just gave birth to her first child, after several miscarriages. The doctors wanted to abort the fetus, saying this was a high-risk pregnancy. Mom said no. Aerith is now two weeks old! Praise the Lord!

While I am against abortion for just any reason, I believe there are at least two cases where it should be allowed. (1) When a girl or woman is raped and made pregnant. She should not be forced to carry her rapist's child to term. That choice, of course, should be hers. (2) When the doctor is sure that the mother will die if she carries the child to term. Of course, that choice also is hers since it's her life in danger. All other cases would definitely be murder. Those two, while perhaps not "right", should not be called murder. Just as killing another in time of war or in self-defense or in defense of another is justified, so should terminating the pregnancy be in those two instances.

I agree. Two wrongs don't make a right. Although there was a terrible crime that led to the pregnancy, the resulting child is still innocent and has a right to life. The mother could always give the child to someone else to raise.
Also, if the mother's life is in danger, the child still should be given every chance at life. We have made great advances in this area of healthcare. There might be a procedure the mother hasn't heard of the could take care of her and the child she's carrying. There are many, many doctors working in this field of medicine. The mother should see as many as possible before deciding this pregnancy has zero chance of survival. I'm so glad I did, as I wouldn't have DS if I had taken my first doctor's advice.

another example of why I don't trust doctors fully.
a doctor who is a smoker, and a drinker, will almost certainly not tell a patient who needs to stop smoking and drinking to stop smoking and drinking.

a doctor who is pro-abortion/murder will immediately strongly urge a mother to abort her pregnancy.
a doctrol who is anti-abortion/murder will assure the mother he will do his best to find a second opinion and a specialist who may be able to help out in this case.

heck, I've read of a doctor in backwards China who operated on a complex issue by following instructions from a doctor in the States via the internet.

A few weeks ago, in an abortion thread, I pointed out how John the Baptist recieved salvation while in the womb. Little did I know, at the time, how brilliant it was, but the more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that abortion can make absolutely no sense to the true Christian.

This article tells us God cannot work miracles, especially in the womb, and that mankind has to intervene. The only humane thing to do is end the life.

One doesn't really need to be a Christian to abhor abortion. But, really, I wouldn't set foot into a church with members or a pastor who are pro-abortion because they wouldn't be able to give me a convincing, convicting, Biblical sermon about trust in God, the wisdom of God, and the kindness of God.

And I've actually met some real life, in-the-flesh believers who are absolutely pro-abortion, and on the other hand, I've also met some non-believers and religionists who are absolutely anti-abortion.

Some of those who have their babies killed in the womb by those murdering men in white are just absolutely selfish. They only think of themselves, their pleasures, their freedoms, and so on. They like sex and its pleasures, but not the responsibility and the consequences that may come out of it.

Some of them are misinformed, and get swayed by the opinion of "professionals" who know better than they do.
Some honestly think it's the best thing for the babies.

Of course, we cannot, as Christians, impose our morals on others, we can only live as their examples. However, we can only speak for ourselves and so if as a Christian, the choice between aborting a pregnancy or continuing with it should be set before us, for any reason at all, I think this should be a no-brainer. Trust God to work out His will in us to do and to will of His good pleasure.

Like some of the others said, why would'nt this be murder? The child is still a human being, no matter what the facts about their origin.

Killing a child becuase you don't like their father is far removed from killing someone in a combat situation.

And, to finish the thought, what mother would kill their 5 year old or 10 year old child in order to save their own life? That would be considered sick by almost everyone. Why would it be different before the baby is born?
