A Democratic congressman from Long Island implied that Americans should grab weapons and oppose President Trump by force, if the commander-in-chief doesn’t follow the Constitution.

Rep. Tom Suozzi made the remark to constituents at a town hall last week, saying that folks opposed to Trump might resort to the “Second Amendment.”

“It’s really a matter of putting public pressure on the president,” Suozzi said in a newly released video of the March 12 talk in Huntington. “This is where the Second Amendment comes in, quite frankly, because you know, what if the president was to ignore the courts? What would you do? What would we do?”

A listener then blurts out, “What’s the Second Amendment?”

The left-leaning Democrat says, “The Second Amendment is the right to bear arms.”

The spectators laughed — some nervously. Republicans were not amused.

“This video is incredibly disturbing. It’s surreal to watch a sitting member of Congress suggest that his constituents should take up arms against the president of the United States,” said National Republican Campaign Committee spokesman Chris Martin.

I doubt if a single Democrat cares about what their Congressman said.

Okay, I'll bite: what part of the Constitution is Trump being accused of not following, or not expected to follow? What courts is he or will he be ignoring?

I can picture the uproar if it had been a Republican making the same remarks about a Democratic president.

I've seen folks here defend the 2ndA precisely for the purpose referred to in the OP: to defend individual liberties against a perceived tyrannical government.

So, as usual, it comes down to the political stripe of the government. Party politics not principles all the way...

Obama, specifically. Imagine the non-stop rioting if a Republican said the very same things regarding Obama!

To take up arms offensively against a sitting president is a coup. You can't shoot people because you disagree with their politics.

There will always be some redneck who might applauded such a thing, but "most folks here" is not accurate.

Generally speaking, Conservatives are far more willing to be critical of their own leaders because our fundamentals are Liberty and the rights of the individual over the group. Progressives base their politics on Marx where the opposite is true. They march in lock-step because it's inherent in the ideology.

As Will Rogers said, Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for....

The Democrats are childish. They are the party of the plantation owners still. Hillary is a liar.

The closest thing we ever had to a dictatorship was Obama, who tried to force everyone to buy his overpriced Obamacare health insurance.

And all of you were outraged when Candidate Trump said these words, right?

"So here, I just wrote this down today. Hillary wants to raise taxes -- it's a comparison. I want to lower them. Hillary wants to expand regulations, which she does bigly. Can you believe that? I will reduce them very, very substantially, could be as much as 70 to 75 percent. Hillary wants to shut down energy production. I want to expand it. Lower electric bills, folks! Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the Second Amendment. By the way, and if she gets to pick --if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don't know. But I'll tell you what, that will be a horrible day, if -- if -- Hillary gets to put her judges in."

It's dangerous talk no matter who says it.
