I did not have time to browse the website, but I did find it a bit amusing that the subtitle of the site is "it is not about us" but the first link given is entitled "about us". I just found a bit of humor in that somewhere.

 

Excellent site. This is the ministry page of Steve Camp. Steve wrote a "Christian Music Manifesto" some years ago questioning the direction of CCM. Lots of good stuff and links to good worship music here. Thanks Molly!

 

I had to have a giggle myself when I saw an ad for "Desiring God" CD on the second page Will have a read though the rest of the site later

After looking through the site, I felt like Mr. Camp might think he has the corner of the market on what God considers glorifying.

He is the only artist described and mentioned in depth on the site.

While his thesis and ideas seem to have a great deal of thought and depth behind them, they also seem to lend weight to his thought that he is a lone ranger seeking to "return Christian music to where it once was."

I've heard Mr. Camp speak a time or two, and he did nothing but offend his audience. Once several years ago, he spoke to a group of hundreds of jr. high and high school students at a Hot Hearts conference about the importance of glorifying God in Christian music. He then proceeded to tell them they should get rid of all their Christian CDs and seek more appropriate music... while announcing his "God-glorifying" CDs were on sale in the foyers. Many students were not only turned-off but viciously seething by his assessment that they were a sinful generation for listening to DCTalk, Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith.

I'm praying for Mr. Camp, as I have been since that day. This is the first time I've ever seen his thoughts scripted out, and throughly enjoyed reading his basis for thought. While, as I said before, I believe his inital idea was good, he has perverted it into an idea that he is the few, the proud, the Christian artist. I have a hard time with that. Just my humble opinion.

 

I always wondered what direction his music would take after making his 107 theses, amd if he would renounce all his old stuff. Were those his old CD's he was advocating, or has he made any more CD's after that?
