Please can anyone tell me how to get accents on the keyboard - without getting an alien keyboard like Jim had a few days ago?
I would like to be able to type bless - ed and not blessed .... if you know what I mean without major alterations to this ancient computer, which gives me enough trouble as it is - it is Packard Bell / windows `98.

There's a little program called Character Map — START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/SYSTEM TOOLS.

Start the program, which will show all the characters available. Click on the character and the program will display the keyboard command - it's ALT plus a series of numbers. Hold down the ALT key while you type in the numbers on the keypad on the right (the numbers mixed in with the letter keys won't work.) When you've entered the last number, then you can release the ALT key. The NUMLOCK key on the keypade must be on for this to work.

Hope that helps. At least, I hope I answered the right question ...

In 102ºF i have to type the "102"
then holding down the ALT key
type "167" (use the number pad to the
right with the NUM LOCK light on)
    and the SHIFT "f" key.

Why is it still 102ºF at 7PM CDT ?

Just summer in Oklahoma, Ed, when our fair state takes on the aspects of the nether regions.

And it's supposed to be even hotter this weekend. Joy, joy. I'm ready for this to end, and soon. Probably in October or so ...

Gwinneth, the character map rsr suggests is on all versions of "Windows", and works well. but if you have MS Word then you an use the Symbols in Word for a whole lot of strange things :D
In A 'Word' dcument go to the 'Insert' drop-down menu, then click on 'Symbols' then have fun seeing the options [IMG]

Can then copy and paste if you want it in a different program

    Regards
    Bob

Gwyneth, when you are referring to "accent" are you referring to accents on lettering such as the following? Á, á, É, é. Ó, ó, Ö, ö, Ú, ú, Ü, ü, etc? If you do, then follow this simple procedure. Go to "My Computer," and open the following: "Control Panel," Keyboard," Language." Then click on "Add." Then select a language with these accents I was posting above (either German or Hungarian). I selected the Hungarian above. When you have the right language, select "Check: Left Alt+Shift," then "OK." "OK" again and you have the foreign language with accented letters in your keyboard.

All you have to do is, push down at the same time the "Shift & Alt" keys to change the letterings on your keyboard. On your lower right hand toolbar you will see a small block with the following, when "Shift + Alt" are being pushed down at the same time: "En" (for English) and "Hu" (for Hungarian or any other language). I have three languages on my keyboard, and I use them regularly. Although I am not sure if you meant this procedure. Please let us know what you meant exactly, OK? [IMG]

I don't get it. Why doesn't she just capitalize the last words?

Brother Barnabas, it is an insider joke. When the Welsh people speak they always inflect the last word of each sentence, sort of like singing it. Then often they will add an expression like: So, your name is Barnabas, is it? They are not asking the question, but that is the manner of speaking.

    Cheers,

    Jim

If I were a betting man, I would wager that Gwyneth will get it straight off.

Sherrie tickled my interest for the Welsh [IMG] and I found a Bible verse on the secular webpages out there. Here it goes:

How do you like my instant Welsh Gwyneth? [IMG]
