ACLU limits 'free speech' by its board members

The American Civil Liberties Union is weighing new standards that would discourage its board members from publicly criticizing the organization's policies and internal administration.
"Where an individual director disagrees with a board position on matters of civil liberties policy, the director should refrain from publicly highlighting the fact of such disagreement," the committee that compiled the standards wrote in its proposals.

"Directors should remember that there is always a material prospect that public airing of the disagreement will affect the A.C.L.U. adversely in terms of public support and fund-raising," the proposals state.

Liberals have always wanted two sets of laws . . . one for us - to control us, and another for them - so that they get freedom.

A perfectly logical maneuver on their part.

Good - it really would have been too ironic, not to mention (although someone did) hypocritical.
    There are control freaks everywhere.

Do not get me wrong. If any organization wants to keep its board meetings private I'm all for it. But since the ACLU is against it and goes to court to fight it when it comes to the government then it would be hypocritical.

I agree that is is inconsistent with the high standards of the ACLU. On the other hand, that is how Bush is running the government.
