This is interesting, conservitaves have opposed gay marraige to preserve the sanctity of marraige. But to be consistant should we not have laws to preserve that sanctity even when the couples are of opposite sex.

The rebutal of the sanctity of marraige by same sex advocates has been something like, What about Britny Spears she was only married for 48 hours to her first husband and a year to her second. How is that preserving the sanctity of marraige?

Now Life in prison sounds a little harsh. But should the goverment enforce some sort of criminal penalty for breaking the contract of marraige?

I just saw the link at the Drudge Report, and still cannot believe it.
That seems a bit excessive. What's next, debtors prisons?

Why not? Didn't we used to punish adulterers in the town square in America?

 Did you just stick out your tongue at me, BIR? It is, thanks.

Some of the old ways were the good ways. Just think, if we still rode horses, we wouldn't have to worry about oil anymore, just oats.

If we put people in jail for private behavior like adultery, I would imagine that some of our BB members would be locked away. To suggest that is beyond conservative...it is reactionary.

Well if we had big oats companies instead of big oil companies i am quite sure the left would figure out how to blame oats for global warming.

    Your post left me confused.

If you were trying to post something like: "Should we support laws that encourage people to be good citizens especially when those laws support God's law?"

    Then yes - "I agree!"

Sould there be a legal penalty (like jail time, or a fine) for breaking your marraige contract?

If you get caught in adultery in the military you will suffer legal problems.

This comes under civil law, not criminal. Do you want to criminalize all breaking of contracts or just this one?

If I join the army and then break my contract by deserting, what would happen?

I am just asking the question?

The military has its own rules which are not covered by contract law.

If I left my civilian job here without two-weeks notice, what would happen? Just asking...

Thats why I draw the compairison with the military. Because the contract of marraige with with the goverment, as well as with each other and God.

The just asking part was in reference to

I was saying just asking because you seem to think that I am avocating for criminalization of breaking the contracts. I may be I may not, I am just asking the questions so I can consider it.

I know "just asking" sounded kind of wise guy.

Yeah, people often think I'm being sarcastic when I'm utterly sincere :saint: I appreciate your explaining.

Anyway, people can leave their state and federal jobs, too, without criminal penalties (generally - there may be exceptions) - postal workers, correction officers, etc.

I think the penalties, were adultery to be criminalized, would be very unevenly applied.

Law enforcement, Fire, Nurses have strict contracts with the state that if they abandon their post they will be arrested and put in jail.

What is the reason that state has for encourtageing marraige? Why are there tax breaks and what not? If the state does not enforce with punishment this contract, maybe they should remove themselfs from it totaly. Not reconize any marrage with any insentives. No tax break no joint taxes, no goverment certificates acknowleging marraige of any kind.
