alcohol and the Christian

I can see no real purpose for it.

 

There are health benefits associated with the consumption of very moderate amounts of alcohol.

It is good for the body in moderation, so it can be a way of taking care of ourselves.

 

I don't have a problem with drinking in moderation, but my wife does (she does want to drink or others to drink either... she doesn't have a drinking problem! cringe) anyway, so I don't drink at all in order to not be a stumbling block to her.

 

I personally believe that a drink is not a sin. drunkenness is however prohibited in scripture. We are admonished not to be a stumbling block, also, and since I could cause someone a problem by drinking, I refrain from my favorite ice cold beer on hot summer days.

 

You can find just as much about the harm alcohol causes.

Even in moderation, brain cells are destroyed. The body loses fluids, and your immune system is attacked. Reaction time is also affected.

I don't agree with consumption of it for pleasure, but I can't agree that is has no purpose. It is used for medicinal purposes. There are many extracts that are best assimilated in a base of alcohol.

The Bible doesn't forbid the consumption of alcohol. But it does forbid drunkenness. Each person must decide for him/herself if consumption of any kind creates a state of drunkenness. I'm a lightweight.

At 180#, I can have one beverage per hour. Any more than that, and I feel the effects. Therefore, I have decided to not consume alcohol as a rule of thumb. My brother-in-law, on the other hand, weighing in at a hefty 320#, can down three or four in an hour without any effects. He has decided that he will not consume more than two beverages in a two hour setting.

Another way of looking at it....If you drink 10 cans of beer, you are drunk; if you drink one can of beer, you are one tenth drunk.

I prefer to get my high from the Holy Spirit rather than an alcoholic spirit.

The Bible also tells us that you are deceived by it if you think that you won't be by alcohol.

 

I don't drink and think that is a major area as christians we need to be seperated from the world. I went to a restraunt and as I was leaving I saw a woman wearing a t'shirt advertising a chrurch going to the bar. In are local newspaper a catholic priest ran a advertising saying come join him for a beer and talk catholism. Yikes! Is that a message we want to say to the lost?
No, simply I don't drink. And from what the bible says strong caution should be used.

Also Proverbs 23:20, Isaiah 5:22, tells that you should not be around drunks. (For those that only drink in moderation, and think nothing of going to a bar. You aren't always the only one there, and you know there are those that drink too much.)

It can also cause you to go astray, Hosea 4:11.

 

I don't drink Dr.Pepper either, neither do I drink caffeine.

When's the last time your doctor prescribed a can of beer for you? What is it supose to cure?

 

No you're not because drunkeness is highly subjective.

It varies greatly from individual to individual.

For instance, at 6'4" and about 230 lbs, I can drink quite a bit more than my brother who is 5'10" and 160 lbs and not be impaired.

Also, the definition of "drunk" varies.
