You hand me a gun and tell me its unloaded the first thing I'm going to do is check it for myself - anything else is irresponsible and anyone who doesn't follow basic gun safety rules is too immature and ignorant to have a gun in their hand. Period.

To say he was told it was unloaded as an excuse - is not an excuse it is admitting one's shortcomings when handling a gun.

From the reports I posted above, it looks like Mr. Baldwin and everyone else on the set broke every rule of firearms safety in the book. Not to mention being so cheap as to not have the proper persons in charge of the weapons.

Apparently other actors are saying the same thing that it is always shown to them that they are truly cold weapons and it is also shown to the person being pointed at.

First 2 of the "Ten Commandments of Gun Safety":
--Treat every gun with the respect due a loaded gun.
--Never point a gun at something you don't wish to shoot.

Read this morning that some of the actors/staff liked to "plink" (shooting at empty cans) during lulls and off time, and had been doing it earlier on the day of the tragedy.

Not at all convinced that Alec Baldwin was unaware of gun safety rules. Gun safety is a huge issue that even "leftists" should know about, especially those on a movie set, and Baldwin in particular, as he is executive producer. Sounds like the walkoffs knew, indicating yet another source of knowledge he should have been privy to. Baldwin may be culpable in many ways, perhaps even for the hiring of the evidently inept armorer.

That doesn't settle the issue. He would have to establish that firearms cannot be used as props. But it seems they can, one reason gun safety is such an important issue on set.

The mistake is assuming props cannot be real weapons. That idea must be dispelled from the jurors minds even before they become jurors. “In this case, when you hear the phrase ‘prop gun,’ think ‘real firearm, live ammo.’”
