If you get an ad, email, etc. on an 'Alexa' web search toolbar, don't click on it!!!
Alexa is a virus that will track where you have been on the web. The next time you get on the web and try to go to those places, Alexa will freeze up your system every time.

Alexa got into my dad's computer not too long ago and froze up the system to where I had to shut it off manually. I ran a virus program called "Ad-Aware" and it picked it up then got rid of it for me. I was curious about this virus and looked it up on the web. I found some stories of people who downloaded this search bar or came into contact with it somehow and had many many problems.

Just a warning for you all: DON'T download or click on anything for the Alexa web search toolbar or web search help!!!

Alexa can come hidden in a lot of different things. It has been around for a while now, so basically every anti-spyware app worth its salt will nab it... but if you don't use one you are wide open.

Here are some good (and free!) anti-spyware apps for everyone:

    Ad-Aware SE Personal - http://www.majorgeeks.com/Ad-Aware_SE_Personal_d506.html

    SpyBot-Search & Destroy - http://www.majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_Destroy_d2471.html

    Microsoft Windows Defender (requires SP2) - http://www.majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Windows_Defender_d4466.html

None of these will help you if you don't use them. Spybot is great in that it can "immunize" your system against many culprits. Windows Defender is basically automated... you tell it what time to scan and how often.
