I have seen her perform live at least 5 times.
She is a very talented lady. Always has some of the top bluegrass people around her too.

Somehow, I just can't picture angels singing a "whiskey lullabye."

    I dunno, maybe it's me.

I think they were better when Adam Steffey was in the lineup!

Wasn't that a duet that Alison did with Brad Paisley in commercial country music? I really don't care much for commercial country music...'cause I'm a bluegrass man. [IMG]

Or "Angel of the Morning"...remembering back to my college days listening to a cover of that song by Oliva Newton-John.

I am a big fan of Alison and Union Station. There is a lot of commercial country music that I don't like, but have you critics listened to the message of the whisky lullabye song? This is not song that glorifies drinking but a powerful message against alcoholism and suicide. This is a powerful song that needs to be heard. I would rank it up there with Martina McBride's song 'Concrete Angel.' The truth is there are a lot of songs like this in mainstream country music today and they need to be listened to.

Yep, kinda like "Indepedence Day" that Martina did a few years back, focusing on the tragedy of domestic violence!

Alison Krauss and Union Station have been one of my favorite bluegrass bands for a long time. Although I have to say, the phrase "bluegrass perfection" only applies to them some of the times. They used to do bluegrass all the time, but they have become a bluegrass "fusion" band the last few years. They play a lot of bluegrass, but also a lot of very tastefully played acoustic country.

About half of the AKUS live CD/DVD have drums, and you have left the bluegrass realm when you use drums. Larry does a *magnificent* job with percussion, its very very tastefully played and rather subdued...but ordinarilly in bluegrass the mandolin or fiddle take care of what drums would do with the mandolin "chop" or fiddle "chop".

Having said that, I love all of their music. The bluegrass and acoustic country. They are an amazing group. Everyone is so talented. I am a dobro player and Jerry Douglas is waaaaaaaay beyond good. He is probably the finest dobro player to ever live. Dan Tyminski is an extremelly talented musician, playing lead guitar and mandolin. And his voice sounds so authentically "appalachian"...you would never guess he is from Vermont! Alison is a world class fiddle player. Ron Block is a professing christian and a great banjo and guitar player. I believe every song he has written for AKUS is a gospel song.

Yes, they do some songs that are not exactly *christian* in content...but they dont promote themselves in any way to be a *christian* group. When I listen to secular music of this sort and a few songs pop up that are questionable, I just tune it out and appreciate that wonderful instrumental playing going on, and the beauty of Alisons singing voice.

Union Station's style of bluegrass is awesome to me. Anyone know of any gospel bluegrass that sounds similar.

    Brooks,

Theres a gospel bluegrass group called the Cox Family. They are awesome and they sound similar to AKUS. As a matter of fact one of their recordings is called...

Alison Krausse and the Cox Family!

Yep, Alison heard a recording of theirs and was so blown away that she found a way to meet them. They jammed a bit and Alison asked if they wanted to do a CD together.

    So they did!

But I've heard some of their stuff by themselves and you wont be disappointed with any of it.

    Blessings,

    Mike
