    The Preambles of all 50 States Of The United States: ​

    Alabama 1901, Preamble. We the people of the State of Alabama, invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God, do ordain and establish the following Constitution.
    Alaska 1956, Preamble. We, the people of Alaska, grateful to God and to those who founded our nation and pioneered this great land.
    Arizona 1911, Preamble. We, the people of the State of Arizona, grateful to Almighty God for our liberties, do ordain this Constitution...

    Uh oh...all those documents must be overturned and re-written. They are in violation the U.S. Constitution.:rolleyes:

    New Hampshire, Oregon, Tennessee and Virginia - those are not preambles, you know. You ought to change the title to "Some 46 States..."

    Some of the others are kind of iffy: Hawaii, Washington, Vermont, Massachusetts.

    Commonwealth Of Australia Constitution Act 1900, Preamble. Whereas the people of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and Tasmania, humbly relying on the blessing of Almighty God.....

    But every time I see it it reminds me of a line in Orwell's 1984 "...rejects and vilifies every principle for which the Socialist movement originally stood, and it chooses to do this in the name of Socialism..."

    Also reminds me of Jeremiah chapter 7 and similar passages...

    Amazing how all of these at least given God some small type of recognition, but the US Constitution totally leaves any concept of God out.

    The US framers knew what they were doing.

    The point was not that all 50 states make reference to God in their Preambles. The point is that all 50 state constitutions (which include but are not limited to the preambles) make reference to God. Thus, there is no need to change the thread title.

    Some of the references are only that citizens have the right to worship as they see fit.

    How about the subtitle then? "The Preambles of All 50 States Of The United States" should be "The Preambles of Some of the 50 States Of The United States"

    Isn't 'the Great Legislator of the Universe' just a little ambiguous? "...Grateful for Divine Guidance..." is kind of indirect, but ok.

    The term God came mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

    Ask someone in Wicca about God/Goddess and they will tell you, but it won't be what you read/heard about in our church.

    I agree with Daisy, the reference is there to show our independence that we can believe in whatever we want without the interferece of the government.

    Oh... I see. I thought you were talking about the title of the thread. I did not realize that you were talking about the title at the top of the e-mail text that I cut and pasted in my OP. Sorry for the confusion. How about I edit that part of the OP to read, "From the Constitutions of all 50 States"? Doing so would more accurately reflect the main point that I was trying to make in posting the material.

    You are applying your own 21st century (post-modern) thinking back onto the texts. The majority of the quoted texts were written before post-modern thinkers began to espouse the idea that words have multiple meanings and that those multiple meanings reside solely in the mind of each individual using the words. Therefore, it would be a mistake to attribute the meaning for "God" that you indicate to the original author's intent.

    I don't think so when you consider the fact that God gave His Law orally to Adam in the garden (with commands like be fruitful and multiply, subdue the earth and rule over it...). Likewise, He gave His Law to be written by Moses in the first five books of the Bible (10 Commandments etc.). Finally, it is God who put the physical laws of the universe into place and it is Him that upholds those physical laws to this very day. I'd say that pretty much without question makes him the "Great Legislator of the Universe."
