Luke2427 posted this in response to one of my posts about bible versions.

"Don't tell me what these people (many if not most IFBs) beleive is not close to, if not altogether, heretical. Just read this above. This is why many reputable scholars like Dr. Price who translated the NKJV, call this bunch a cult. "

I always assume a cult to be non-christian. Is Luke saying that I am not a christian?

    Is he questioning my salvation?

IFBers are not heretics. I will disagree with them on many issues, but would not label them heretical and will look forward to worshipping with them one day.

I would suggest that it is not a denominational/sect level issue, but rather a personal and individual level issue.

As each person in the IFB or outside of the IFB is truly justified as a believer in Jesus Christ, they are a Christian -- period.

I expect that there are some who are born again from above and some who are pretenders, merely full of religious zeal, just like in every denomination/sect.

    Thank you Ruiz

I am just as dedicated to my belief that salvation is open to anyone that responds as Luke is to hsi belief that salvation is limited to a chosen few.

But, even though I disagree with Luke, I would never question his salvation.

And yes, Ruiz, I would not have any problem worshiping with any true believer like yourself.

I agree with you totally, however there are many on here, Luke2427 especially, that feel that they have to label every one, and chastise all that don't subscribe to their personal beliefs.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the ad hoc speculations of many around here concerning who is or isnt a follower of Christ.

I've got plenty of IFB friends and love to death for their passion for the Gospel.

Some people make ignorant blanket statements, mostly out of pride and envy, so I don't give much creedence to their rants. You shouldnt either. Be encourage and continue to pursue Christ, you're doing great!

    Interesting thread.

During the early 1980's, while attending Tennessee Temple University, my Sunday School teacher was Dr. Price at Highland Park Baptist Church. He was one of the most gracious teachers I have ever known. Although he worked on the NKJV translation committee, you would never know it. He was much more interested in bringing glory to Jesus Christ than he was in talking about himself.

As R Snow said - this is an interesting thread.

Preach has an interesting statement (see above). The problem I see with extreme IFB, is that the Pastor ( aka "some people" ) will make a outrageous blanket statement and his "sheep" sallow it hook, line and sinker. Excellent example - "A woman is sinning if she wears pants" based on Deut 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man... (KJV)
There are many variables - are we under OT law, exactly what "pertaineth unto a man" and ect.
Bottom line, a person should have a conviction based on what he studied in the Scriptures - not based on a "blanket statement by the "Shepard".
Now, a conviction may have its start in what you pastor teaches, but make sure when you declare a doctrine, it is your belief.

One good way to tell is if someone asks you about a standard; do you say,

    "well, my preacher believes...",

    or do you say,

"I have studied the Scripture and I believe....

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THIS A THREAD ON WOMEN WEARING PANTS - I only used that as an (excellent) example.

You've painted a good picture of the man. I was just at the church he and his wife attend in Chattanooga, and they were just as gracious and kind as ever. Patty and I are honored to call them friends.

Luke2427 has probably mis-quoted Dr. Price and thus done him an injustice. I don't know that he has ever called the KJVO position a "cult," though his book on the subject calls it a "sect." (Alas, my copy is in Japan so I can't confirm this.) There's a large difference between the two words.

Exactly when did pants begin to pertain to men anyway? When Deut. was written, men didn't wear pants.

I am IFB...I am sitting here in my blue jeans, wondering what the problem is.

I wear dresses to church, I have explained this before...My preference is to dress nice for church because I am specifying that time as a time of worship and praise where two or more are gathered in the House of the Lord. When I was a child in the Southern Baptist Church, all women wore dresses, and I see no reason to change that feeling of upgrading myself to go to church.

There are women in my church who wear pants to church. That is their choice, not mine though. Noone looks down on them for wearing pants.
The staff and those of us who serve as choir members, Sunday School teachers, etc. are asked to wear dresses when doing those ministries.

When you work at McDonald's, you wear a uniform. No different.

I am IFB as well, and while most of the women wear dresses, some wear pants and nobody makes the least fuss over it. We have some young people who wear their hair a little long, some even color their hair. Nobody makes a fuss over this, we are glad to see young people in church. We allow other instruments, in fact, I play guitar on occasion at church, we have a young lady who plays violin, and even a fellow who plays a horn on occasion. Again, nobody makes the least fuss over this. Our pastor is not a dictator in any sense of the word, in fact, a few months ago he suggested several topics for Sunday School, and we ended up asking him to teach on the Holy Spirit which was not one of his original choices. He has been teaching us great lessons on the Holy Spirit since, and they are terrific classes.

Not every IFB is a fanatical church.

I don't work for the church, I work for Jesus. He sets the standards for me, not some puny man.

Mex, you are getting the thread back on track.

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT WOMEN WEARING PANTS!!!

It simply was an example. Mex got it right, do not let a puny man set your standards - you should set them based on Scripture - AFTER you had studied the issue.

I could have substituted a thousands things instead of pants:
Alcoholic, women teaching men, long hair on men, TV,
R-rated movies, having a Christmas tree, shopping on Sunday, ect....

PLEASE NO MORE TALK ON PANTS - IF YOU MUST - START A NEW THREAD.

I SAID when you work for the church (and are paid by check from the congregation) you have an EARTHLY supervisor who sets rules and procedure.

You men twisted what I said to suit your own purposes. My Pastor is not puny, you men don't know him at all, you have never heard him preach, and you make such statements without any basis.

Debbie. all men are puny in comparison to God.. which is who your pastor is being compared too...

And I'm sure your pastor would agree that he is puny when compared to God..

In some churches the pastor makes the call on what people wear
In some churches God makes the call...

    That's all he was saying..
