In light of the recent discussions of salvation, I want to see how many people will be willing to discuss someone's salvation, when that person is willing and able to talk back to you.

    This isn't a joke.

Am I saved? Ask your questions, provide your evidence.
It should be MUCH easier to decide with a real live person rather than someone you can't find out as much about.

    STILL serious. Go for it.

Your comments on the board demonstrate a genuine commitment to Christ. While I'm forbidden from judging your salvation, your overall comments lend support to you having a firm relationship with the Lord.

Gina - at what point in your life did you repent of your sin and put faith alone in Jesus Christ?

I'm glad you asked, because I have a rather unusual testimony as far as that's concerned, and it definitely raises some eyebrows! I'll TRY to stick with making this short.

I repented of my sins before I had any faith whatsoever.
I was guilty and I knew it, but I didn't know what happened next. Following my repentance, I began to seek for the truth.
I knew who Jesus Christ was, and I WANTED to believe in Him, but I simply couldn't. I prayed for faith, and it didn't happen. I spent a few years in various types of churches, including and IFB one, and nobody ever really questioned me. I ended up in the LDS church, where to make a long story short, I believed that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that faith in that and the LDS church would gain me entry into my level of heaven, as the keys are held by the prophet of the current dispensation in LDS theology.

Faith in Christ was not something I feel that I chose for myself. I had TRIED to have it, I wanted it, and it hadn't happened.
    When DID it happen?
Someone witnessed to me, saying the same things I'd heard all along but that night, it struck me different and shook me to the core.
I went home and tried to pray. At that point I wanted to continue clinging to my LDS beliefs. They felt right, and I didn't want to be wrong. Plus, even with doubts as to who Christ was, I could live that religion without fear.
Faith just happened, and I can't really explain it. It happened that night. I felt as if there was a spiritual battle that I had NO control over, it was almost like I was feeling two distinct sides fighting for me and I gave up any involvement, just decided that whoever won, won. I knew that when it was over, I would either believe in Jesus Christ alone or I would believe in Joseph Smith, or maybe nothing, but the nothing was on the same side as Joseph Smith.

All I can say is that Christ won. I didn't ask him to. If anything, I had thought I'd be relieved to still be on the LDS side. He just did, and the moment it happened I felt the struggle end and knew I was safe and just thanked God in tears.

It didn't occur to me to repent at that time, I just kinda basked in the wonder of it all.

I think I tried to later, but I knew I already had and that this whole God thing really had nothing to do with me. I did end up, a few times as I was thanking God, repent of my unbelief, wonder why he didn't do all that sooner in my life but not in a bad way, just in a curious way and sometimes I still do, but since I wouldn't be who or where I am if things happened differently, that's probably why.

I honestly don't remember when that was. I can't point to a day and say "I was saved on such and such day".

It was a process that I tried to do myself, and only when I gave up trying to do it myself was it completed and made known to me.

Amen. And later feeling "repentance" over your previous unbelief is not uncommon. We all look back after GOD does the saving work and wonder WHY we didn't believe sooner!

For most people the "light" comes on and it is instantaneous repent/believe/call on Christ. For others it seems a slower process.

Looks like you had a "godly sorrow" over sin (true repentance, seeing sinful life from God's holy perspective) that was driving you. I did the same - from judaism to catholicism to the Baptists and hearing the true Gospel. But still took about a year to have the Spirit fully complete his work and I "believed".

Thank you for the testimony. And not remembering an actual calendar date is far less important than remembering the "event" itself of complete faith in Christ.

Gina, your conversion sounds very similar to many I have known (including my own). I also flirted with various denominations "seeking" a place to lay my head. I also cannot pinpoint the exact date either, and wonder often why I wasn't converted sooner. I just rejoice that I am saved.

Gina, James 2:18 says, "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."

John 15:8 tells us, "Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples."

So in keeping with your OP, do you have any works that indicates fruit in your life?

Sister Gina, yes you're saved! Dr. Bob doing a much better job of explaining it than I can so I'll leave it at that.

PS My "Re-Birth" Day is April 4, 1995! A date I would have easily forgotten had I not written it down on the calendar back then! LOL!

Rather than having a firm date for trusting Christ cemented in our memory, knowing that right now I am trusting Christ alone is sufficient for me to know I am saved. Our faith can waver, but praise God He cannot!

    I believe your testimony sister.

I also beleive there are many many out there who are confused by the yoke of bondage that so many denominational teachers place upon them to wit they are unable to bear the simple acknowledgement as Brother Mike declares that knowing he is right now trusting in Christ alone that he is saved.

The salvation discussions of other threads is ignoring one important factor, no one who believes that there are many 'heathen' regenerated children of God will give encouragement and hope of eternal life to any one of those (anywhere and at any time) who having heard the Gospel do not embrace it.

That is an important fact that is misunderstood.

Have I been blessed to have a continual experience of grieving over my sinfulness? Yes and I praise God for that and His Grace alone shed through Christ is the source of that and not my 'believing' in some man's report of how things are etc.

My point is that were I to sit under the sound of the gospel as I have throughout my life, hearing, knowing and never having that godly sorrow because of my depravity, then there is no warrant to give me encouragement to hope toward eternal life.

Otherwise, having heard the gospel and having responded to the gospel I have hope that table that has been prepared from eternity past has a place for me, otherwise, I would fear that eating of it would be the death of me.

Simply put any other way is an attempt of man to identify the circumcision of the heart in an intellectual manner. We cannot.

Define works that indicate fruit. </font>[/QUOTE]One example might be something that helps another grow in Christ, or come to know Christ, or witness for Christ, or teach a Sunday School class, or visit someone that is in the hospital or nursing home. Those are just a few.

Perhaps you should do a word study on fruit and another on works.

People ask me all the time

    "Preacher! Am I saved??"

You know what I tell them??

"I don't know! Why don't you ask the Holy Spirit!! He knows whether you are or not---and if you ask Him--He's gonna tell the truth!! I mean, do you think the Holy Spirit will lie and tell you "Yes!" when you're really not???? So don't ask me---ask Him!"

I mean---anybody I know---I don't really know them---but the Holy Spirit does! And I'd just as soon like to say that you're saved---but you might not be---but you can trust the Holy Spirit to tell you the truth about your need of being saved!!
Ask Him right now!! "Holy Spirit!! Am I saved??"

    See what He says!!

Iane, I bow to your superior intellect. [IMG]
Just teasing, hehe. I asked because different people have different expectations and ideas of what such are.

Yes, I have that according to your opinion of what it is.

I'm really quite suprised that a number of people haven't jumped on here with a "no!" I expected at least twice as many to make that statement about me as made that statement about Lewis, being as I've posted here regularly for years and made some pretty outrageous statements.

Is Lewis being held to a higher standard than I am? Are others? (seeing as the Christianity of a number of authors/movie makes, etc.. has been discussed and questioned on here. )
If so, why? I don't understand why the standards for decided who is saved and who isn't change from person to person.

Or...are people refusing to say it to me because they don't have the nerve to say it about someone who can answer back? Do I need to die before you can discuss whether or not I'm in hell, and exactly what good DOES it do to discuss it after the fact?

My wife came to repentance and faith in a UMC church. She was 12 yrs. old.

She met me and married at 17 yrs. old.

I had come to repentance and faith at about 13 yrs.

But I had convictions, or drawings, or dealings, or trouble, or whatever you call it; periods of great dread and fear and darkness coming over me regarding the subject of judgment from God. I have always wondered if those the Bible identifies as workers of iniquity who devise their evil upon their beds each night and in the day perform it because it is in the power of their hands have the same seasons of fear and trembling?

I have never been able to answer that question though because the only heart I have been blessed to see into the depths of its dark dungeons of depravity is my own. I note that I do not go into those dark halls because I rejoice in the evil I see but because God mercifully has shed His Grace into my heart to cause me to despise that wickedness.

    I also have been blessed to have grown up under the free course of the gospel message. Regardless of how obedient TBN and other Christian Broadcasters think they are being, the world has not yet been covered;

Anyway, back to my wife, she continued under my disobedient leadership for several years. Finally I was blessed to be once again acted upon from God and moved to study my Bible for a period of months. Searching for what? I already 'knew' Christ right?

Yes I did. So what was I seeking? The truth. I learned by scripture that God had given us the atonement upon the altar and that the life was in the blood; I learned by scripture there is to be an altar built of earth (think flesh and blood) and not rendered upon by the hand of man, I learned of this altar also that there was to be no steps going up before it, lest any would see your (which includes OUR) nakedness (think spiritual nakedeness that we have tried to cover with the dead fig leaves of Adam, also of the steps being a systematic methodology that we have worked out to the minutest detail; then continue; I learned that there was a man sent from God with a mission; what did I learn of his mission? I learned he is not the Christ, but was sent to bear witness of the Christ, and that in Bold proclamation He declared Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.

All this time I am trying to feign obedience in a UMC church because of my great fear and trembling before God. Continuing, I even went so far as to announce my call to the gospel ministry. I was tried in a Sunday School class of 13-15 yr. old boys where I tried the age of accountability thingie and I learned it was not Biblical. Here also I stopped trying to get this young men to tell what Jesus would do and I began to tell them what He did do...until the leaders of the church learned I was speaking to this 'accountable' young men of the shed blood of Christ, thereby frightening them out of their wits...and I was removed from the Sunday School classroom.

(Now I know that was ok, all of those boys could already read when I went there anyway).

Continuing I dropped out of 'church' again, believing I must be an oddball and above all probably not even saved.

    Then I found a people whose only hope is found in the shed blood of Christ;

Thank God for such sweet peace and rest.

May more and more of His dear children not rest until they come to the knowledge of the great reconciliation they now possess in the manifestation of the Godhead bodily. The Lord Jesus Christ. (They won't rest, not in this world, they will continue on, hating this world, even more than what I do, why? Because they are they whose presence this world is not worthy of, their heart crying out for the righteousness of God, their whole spirit desiring the pure word of Truth; but bound by the flesh and fear of death that hangs over them.

Why are we arguing over who is and who isn't His, why are we not out beating the hedges and the highways of the world and compelling them to come in?

We have grown fat in our blessings of corn and wine and we have gone about now just like Israel of old to establish our own righteousness and have not submitted ourselves to the righteousness of God.

What happens to those who grow fat? They appear to grow lazy. Is it that they are really lazy? Or do they simply no longer have the energy (the spiritual strength to continue in the way)?

His people perish for lack of knowledge. Not for lack of salvation, but lack of knowledge.

    Bro. Dallas

O, about my wife, she never followed gospel obedience in baptism until coming to the MB/s why? No one had ever told her of her need. Was she yet in a condition of hopelessness?

    Dear Sister Gina,
I now know you are a true Baptist. You will obviously take an argument any way you can get it. :D

Now, trying to get one BEFORE you die just so you can get the last word in [IMG] [IMG]

You are truly a Baptist, that's for sure [IMG] [IMG]

    Hi Gina L,
In other words, ask your pastor whether you are saved. He should know.
