I signed a pledge to give a certain amount of money to help build a new addition onto our church.Since the completion the church seems to be doing many things I think that are not spiritual.I feel that giving money to help the cause is wrong.Should I continue to give or just give my tithes?Better still should I look for a new church?:praying:

One thing...what exactly did you sign?
Were you given details of exactly what your money would be used for?
The only way out I could see(morally that is) is if they are not using it as they promised.
But it has to actually be different than they PROMISED, not just different than you imagined.

Well, I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you what a man in my church did once.

We, by the Lord's leadership, built a massive educational building and we had a pledge drive. The devil stepped in during our wonderful fellowship and following of God and caused a division in our church.

Several families left grieving and sorrowful. The families that stayed grieved and were sorrowful. There was not so much anger and bitterness as there was crying.

I still can't tell you today just what the hullabaloo was all about.

Anyways....one of the men who left continued to fulfill his financial pledge even though he left our church. I am a dear friend with this man and his wife and I know he continued giving because his wife told me that he struggled with what to do about it, but that in the end he decided to keep his commitment financially.

Signing a pledge card at church is not a blood covenant.....but it is an excellent was to exercise your spiritual commitment.

Just because you continue in supporting the building project does not mean that your necessarily have to agree with everything the church says.

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you to pray very hard about it and seek God's counsel on how to honor your commitment.

Difficult to say by your post. Things that are not Spititual? If they (Pastor, teachers) have departed from the fundamentals of the faith, or, are engaged in immorality-don't walk, run! In that case you pledged money when thay put on a front like they were one thing, but they turned out to be something else. That would be falsehood on their part.
But if you are talking about, let's say, that the Pastor's wife is wearing dress pants instead of skirts-pay the pledge.

Over the years, I have always been one of those who would not sign a pledge to give in the future. This thread explains better than I could, why I don't sign pledges.

I always wondered why a church that is stepping out on faith, would want us to sign a pledge.

Speaking of committing money to a church ahead of time, an elderly lady left money in her will to go to a church in our area. Since she made her will, that church had completely changed during her illness. Had she known what the church had become, I am convinced she would not have wanted her money to go there.

I think you should speak privately with the pastor and give him a chance to explain his side. If he id doing non spiritual things in his Church, he deserves to know the impact it is having on the membership. If you still end up leaving then atleast he'll know why you left.

LeBuick is right. Before you make a decission, go to your pastor and other elders (all of them together if possible), and voice your concerns.

I never signed a pladge card, but did pull out of a church when things started moving to a personal agenda instead of God's directive.

    What should you do?

Well, you've been given some good advice here.

But, hopefully, you've learned a lesson.

Signing a pledge or faith promise is not biblical. Free will giving and making decisions to support projects are fine. To have someone sign a pledge is like a promissory note. God wants our finances to to be between us and God. To let the church leadership know how much you are giving for a project is nice but unbiblical.

Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. (Matthew 5:33-37 KJV)

A pledge card is an oath.

    Nuff Said..
