    I hate those who are double-minded,
    But I love Your Law.

    James 1:8
    being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

    James 4:8
    Come close to God and He will come close to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

    Mistaken and thus false doctrine arises from ambiguity, of using words and phrases that might mean different things to different people. Thus a refuge of "ear ticklers." When asked what "family values" means, the politician said "whatever you think it means...

    If we rightly divide the word of truth, we will arrive at a plainly stated message from God, clear and unambiguous.

    but after we had already suffered and been treated abusively in Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition.

    Here God encourages believers to speak boldly and present the gospel with clarity. We are not to be double minded, it might mean this, and then again, it might mean something else.

    The Greek word teaching we are to speak boldly is "parrēsiazomai" (G3955) and appears in scripture teaching the same doctrine in these verses:
    Acts 9:27, 9:28, 13:46, 14:3, 18:26, 19:8 and 26:26;
    Ephesians 6:20;
    1 Thessalonians 2:2

    The noun form of the word, "parrēsia" (G3954) is translated as "boldness" or "openly" or "plainly."

    Bible Study, if successful, results in our understanding of a verse or passage accurately and plainly, rather than holding an ambiguous view, it might mean this or that. This does not mean we are to be blind to alternate views, but that reach our own conclusion as to the most probable message intended by God.

    And step one of our study effort is to accept that our presuppositions concerning the verse or passage could be wrong. For if we study with a closed mind, our "study" is non-existent.
