Here is a good site containing the top 100 speeches of all time. Most of them are mp3 files so you can actually listen to them. I highly recommend Ronald Reagan's "A time for choosing".

    Thanks for the link.

It's an interesting site. A pity it's confined to 20th-century speeches, which precludes Lincoln, Clay, Webster, etc.

I wonder about the inclusion of the Welch-McCarthy exchange; is that really a speech? Maybe it was. Anyway, I'm glad to have a source for it.

Spiro Agnew's speech on "Television News Coverage" is a good one. Very appropriate for today.

I particularly enjoyed reading Reagan's speech at the Brandenburg gate again. This is part of the reason I believe he was the greatest president of the 20th century.

I know Joseph. I get chills every time I hear Ronnie say "Mr Gorbechev tear down this wall"! I cried when I listened to his talk on the Space shuttle disaster. What a great man he is! Boy do I miss him.

ahhh, good reading for sure, but how could they miss that great spokesman for either General Motors or Ford (can't remember) of the 60's and 70's Ken McFarland and his Ropes of Gold or The Lamplighters speeches....

Interesting. Many addresses to the DNC, Democratic National Convention I assume, but not ONE address to the REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION. Why is this? "Things that make you go hmmmmm." And this is supposed to be the TOP 100? Surely you jest!

Check out the Goldwater speech before the RNC in 1964.

    From Spiro...

"Now, my friends, we’d never trust such power, as I’ve described, over public opinion in the hands of an elected Government. It’s time we questioned it in the hands of a small unelected elite. The great networks have dominated America’s airwaves for decades. The people are entitled a full accounting their stewardship."

The 'great networks' are now facing Judgement Day at the hands of Fox News.... PTL!!!!!

Holy snapping codfish, a whole link thingie on speech making. What a hideous concept, any speech made by an Aussie politician is a veil to hide lies, deceit and self serving.

All pollies are nasty little greedy peeples, and they cry when they get caught with their hand in the honeypot...

So American pollies are different are they, give me a break.....
