Citing issues with how the government shutdown has impacted the ability of the police to “keep the community safe,” Dice tells San Diegans that there is a need to “increase the Orwellian system.”

“Not a problem,” responds one man as he signs the petition.

“We just want to model it after the Nazi Germany system to keep people safe and secure,” Dice tells another individual.

“We’re going to model it after the Nazi Germany-style police state,” Dice clearly tells another man who signs the petition.

“We need this Orwellian-style system to keep everybody safe,” Dice tells a woman as she is signing the petition, to which she responds, “Yeah.”

This would be hilarious if it weren't so sad. People are willing to follow anyone who shows any type of enthusiasm or charisma. It apparently doesn't matter to what end, as long as they're being led.

This is more an indictment of the educational system, as well as the fact that most people don't listen to the spiel, they just sign the petition after hearing his first few words.

Most of the signatories were younger adults, meaning their high school and college classes paid no heed whatsoever to any history prior to 1980, and certainly didn't force them to read classics such as 1984. The last two people Dice approached were older, but all they heard was "City Council" at the beginning of his spiel, and most San Diegans hate their city government, particularly after the disgrace of ousted Mayor Bob Filner.

Try that in Kansas City or Dallas. Dice would get beaten up.

If you start your spiel with, "The government shutdown is impacting the police's ability to keep the community safe" and continue on until you get to the point of the person actually signing their name before you mention "Nazi's" or "Orwellian police state" of course you will get a few that are signing the petition without listening to the speech any more.

I wonder how many people he had to ask and how long he was out there? By observing the length of the shadows it appears he was out there for at least four hours. And he's not going to show people that pull up short with their pen or cross off their name when they hear "Nazi".

No doubt it is pathetic that people will sign something while the person is talking about Nazi's, but I'm not surprised.
