Just saw a good shown PBS - the American Indians and WWI

    Several things came up

    1. Many Indians joined the US military in spite of the Indian Wars just ending some 30 years earlier

    2. Many Indians lived in govt camps and did not have the ability to become a warrior. Fighting in WWI gave them chance

    3. The Germans were afraid of Indians because they only knew of them via books about the old West.

    4. Troops were segregated by Black and white. Indians were considered white.

    5. The Code Talkers of WWII were inspired by the Indian Code talkers of WWI

    6. The natural talents of Indians - scouting, tracking, ect was of valuable service to the United States Army.

Here is one web page of info
then just goggle Indians, WWI for more sites

    Very interesting study

==I find that to be a very interesting point. In the South many Native Americans were considered "colored".

My wife home is Ky. and they had Native Americans in public schools for white.
Here in Fl. they went to white schools before integration.

I went to Hargrave Military Academy which is in Va. and we had Native Americans there and that was before integration.

When I was a child many would brag about being 1/4 or 1/2 part Indian. So in my part of the south I didn't see it.
