Did anyone see the Oreilly interview of the Amish midwives last night(Wednesday)?

They have been delivering babies, including many of these, for 20+ years. So they spoke of the children and their families. They also spoke of the forgiveness which has already begun in that community and with the families.

One couple had numerous sons and tried/prayed to be given a daughter. Their prayer was finally answered with an apparently beautifully spirited daughter. She, being seven, was one of those who died.

It is hard to even imagine their grief! It is amazing to see their forgiveness.

God's will be done. May He continue working in people's lives and comfort those in need.

These people live their faith, every minute. I am humbled by their forgiveness to the killer, and filled with admiration for their imitation of Christ.

That was very nicely said Galatian.

We vacationed in Gatlinburg, Tn. earlier this year and came across an Amish family. At Cades Cove, Tn. while sight-seeing. They had spotted a black bear so I and their fathers were manuevering in conjuntion, in order to get some pictures. This went on for about 45 minutes and was simply a lot of fun!

They were extremely polite and cordial. We snuck a picture of them so as not to possibly insult them? Not sure how they feel about such.

Anyhow, the traditional dress of girls and boys/men and polite nature was something to see.

Again, what an awful tragic event! You watch and see though, God will find some good to bring of it. Even if it is simply us praying for them and ourselves.:praying:

They obviously have leaders that care. Nicely stated, Galatian.

I don't know if this is universal thought, but when we were in Lancaster, they told us that they believed taking a photo was taking their soul with the photo. We put our cameras away.

    Cheers,

How many of us have actually investigated the Amish' religion? I HAVE, and found them to be a CULT.

They believe in SALVATION BY WORKS. They say that belief in the certainty of salvation by the grace of CHRIST is arrogant & thereby sinful. THEY ARE NOT SURE OF SALVATION. Don't believe it? Just ask any adult Amish!!!

They believe that at death God weighs that person's life in accordance with the rules of the Amish congregation to which he/she belonged & then decides whether to send that person to heaven or hell.

So they live a "moral" lifestyle? Well, so do most MOSLEMS. They believe in a wishy-washy God same as Moslems do. While I commend them for their attempts to live as sin-free lives as possible, I denounce them in the strongest terms for their lack of faith in Christ as the ONLY SAVIOR, the only One who can save them from hell. It appears many of them will be among those who say, "Lord, didn't we live a strict lifestyle, avoiding sin, believing in Your existence, etc?" & to whom He will say, "I never knew you!!!"

Their non-beliefs are in direct contrast to the words of the Bible which they recognize as God's words, and as being inerrant.

I recommend that every Baptist or other Christian reading this, endeavor to investigate the Amish religion for him/herself & see if it's correct to describe them in such glowing terms.

With all due respects to you, robycop3, the OP was not about what the Amish believed.
It is how they lived what they believed, whether these beliefs be right or wrong to you, to me, or to anybody.
To be honest, I do not know if I will be able to practice the same kind of forgiveness, and I am a believer.
Even to think of anyone hurting (not yet killing) any of my small kin, kindles anger in me.
But I trust that if God allows me to go through such an ordeal, He also will give me the grace to forgive.

I tried to find something on the net about Amish theology, and frankly, whilst there are certain ideas foreign to what I believe, I could not find where they did not accept regeneration by the Holy Spirit and works a must followiing conversion as evidence of that regeneration. A far cry from works for salvation.

At any rate, as others have said, their act of forgiveness is unbelievable, given the acts performed upon their little ones.

God bless them, and I am not about to judge them.

    Cheers,

    Jim

With all due respect, Jim, please dig a little deeper. You'll find bits & pieces of info about the Old Order Amish that show they do NOT believe in salvation by belief and faith, by the grace of Christ, that they think believing in a one-on-one relationship with Christ is arrogant and sinful, and that they must work to KEEP their salvation, and that they are NOT SURE of salvation in their lifetimes.

Another thing is that they believe THEIR way is the ONLY way to heaven, a characteristic shared with Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Moslems, Moonies, SDAs, etc.

Here's a start, if you wishta research on your own:

Hello Robycop3. I don't agree with your overall assessment or depicition but your web page, which I have come across, does offer some insight. However, the Amish have a website themselves. So maybe we should just ask or see exactly whay they truly believe, from them indeed.

My take is this. They do accept Jesus as their Savior and have a personal relationship with Him just as us. Salvation can be assured but they think it is simply arrogant to express, as God's Will be done. I don't get the impression they believe theirs is the only and true faith. As they make numerous comparrisons of themselves to others. We simply accept our salvation through Christ with works secodary as noted. They also accept salvation through Christ but acting as Christ is also of greatest importance. Anyhow here is their site with many answers as given by them. http://www.amish.net/faq.asp

Jim 1999. As we spoke about photography earlier.

As noted, I met an Amish family earlier this year on vacation and we worked in conjunction to get some pictures of a bear. They were a little more progressive obviously having a van but their mannerism and clothing were all traditional. Anyhow, I refrained from taking a picture of them because I did not want to be insulting in any way or to make a spectacle of it. My Mother-In-Law however snuck a picture of us, Amish and myself, as we were all walking back to our vehicles together. I was glad to hear she had taken a picture because it was a lot of fun and they were all great.

    Take care.

    God Bless, Ralph
