An apology

I posted in an active thread of a systemic pessimism I have about the state of the church. I say systemic because it has not been a situational pessimism but rather a general pessimism. I have seen the world not only gain a foothold in the church but flourish. This saddens me. Unfortunately, I have allowed this to harden my attitude towards things and towards people. As a result, my fuse has been short with certain people. I have been public on this board about blocking people for perceived slights or an attitude I consider unbecoming, not realizing that my own attitude has been unbecoming. None of this has to do with the theological distinctives I hold to and it does not mean I will avoid the vigorous debates this board is so famous for. However, I am praying that the Lord will help soften my attitude. To that end, I am going to reverse some decisions I have made regarding certain board members. I offer my apology to any I may have offended by my arrogance. Do not worry. I am not going to reverse my opinions or theological positions. I have not gone soft. I just realize that it is better to work things out (where possible) through dialog than by cutting people off.

Please do not feel the need to comment on this post. If you have read it, that is enough.

Thank you.

Sadly, I am myself extremely pessimistic about the church in The United States.

There may be some churches that are failing and failing because they are not on the right track - not even close.

However, I choose to believe that there is definitely a remnant of churches and people who are in God's will. I focus on them. They need prayer and to be strengthened.

Reformed, I can relate to what you are saying both on the macro level of the churches and on the micro level of conduct on BB.

There are churches that are compromising, accepting worldly philosophies. It's disheartening, but it helps to be in a good church. Also, know this--We win in the end.

As to this statement of yours:
As a result, my fuse has been short with certain people.
I would respectfully submit that you are one of the more patient members on the board. Diplomatic and tactful. You put up with me, after all!

I went through the phase of using of the Ignore List ("killfile" was the term I used, a nod to my Usenet days) to block various members. For a while it was the only way I could endure being here. But now I've got my list down to one individual.

I certainly endorse your apology, Sir, although you have nothing to apologize to me for. OTOH, I'm apologizing to you for losing patience sometimes, due to my background of being opinionated, stubborn, & a fighter. We may have disagreements in the future, but I believe you're a CHRISTIAN, & that's all that really matters after all is said & done.
