Here is something our church has adopted for our VBS this year.

Our VBS is going on this week.

Each night I am uploading pictures of that evening's VBS.
This way parents can view these with their children, and the children can share what went on with the parents. It also lets the parents know how much we care for their kids. It shows the church in action.

Here is the link for anyone that is interested.

This is a good idea, but it made me laugh! I live in an area in which many people do without running water, and some even without electricity, but even those people have access to the internet! Ah, the necessities of life, and the wonders of the internet; it's such a tool that can be both useful and harmful, and this idea that you've presented is also a way to preserve their memories in years to come, now that storage and bandwidth are so inexpensive.

I read your posts, and forget where you are. lol

I thought it was a good idea when I heard it at the VBS seminar this past spring. But the idea came from one of the VBS companies.. they would give a church free space to place pictures if they bought their curriculum.

I just adopted it, since our church has a website.

Too many families are too busy to set down and discuss daily activities with their children. This may be another way to do it.

    This is a great idea.....

I did the same with my Greece Photos...

Also with the pictures, if you have powerpoint or have video projection, you can set the pictures to a song or two and play them as people come into the sanctuary before the service starts.

I'm putting together a powerpoint for the closing program.

We are also having a penny march, and the winners between the girls vs. boys, gets to dye my hair!
If I get the pic, I'll replace my picture in my profile for a while.
Pink if it is the Girls, Green if the boys win.

Another Idea that I included this year comes from GROUPS VBS. It is their daily challenges... where the students take home a slip of paper with little things they can do to reinforce the previous night's lessons. Like, help mom around the house, help a neighbor, etc.

This year if they bring them back signed, they can throw them into the offering.. that way we are teaching them that God doesn't want JUST their money, but their service also....

When they turn them in, it counts as a dollar toward the competition.

For the offering, which always went to missions, we had daily competitions of:
    Monday--pennies
    Tuesday--nickles
    Wednesday--dimes
    Thursday--Quarters
    Friday--Dollars

Boys vs. girls. Always raised more than a thousand dollars.

I always was one to push the envelope...

One teen walked up to me tonight and asked me if he could dye it grey... And before I could say anything, he said, "never mind, someone beat me to it!" ha...not!

I really enjoy VBS.. it is probably my favorite time of year.. I can be a kid again.

I am uploading new pics each night...
Tonight, I even caught one of my deacons moving (dancing?) to the P&W music!
    And in a Baptist Church!

What a beautiful time you're having. I like the idea of the pictures but I like this idea even more. I can see their little faces as they run in with their signed paper :)

I may borrow this from you. We have a lot of kids coming from single parent homes. Something like this will go a long way. What if they do something for a neighbor, would it count if the neighbor signed the paper?

PS... You have to keep the hair colored for Sunday service so they can really benefit from the prize...

Sure it counts if the neighbor signs it. To be honest, this was an "on-the-spot" idea the first night of VBS. When i was announcing the "daily challenges", the idea hit me... I know a lot of them come from poor families, and if we count the challenges as "money" toward the contest, it will not embarass them...

This way everyone can play along, despite economic circumstances.

It also teaches them the concept of service.... Just because a person has limited income does not mean they cannot serve God.

They are not dying it until Sunday Evening at the closing program..
I'm not about to wear it for a week!!! I could imagine doing hospital visits next week!

Our VBS is almost a carbon copy of yours, tinytim! Ours is scheduled for Aug. 7-11.

We do the penny contest all week, boys vs girls, all $ collected for missions. Friday night is our carnival/picnic/petting zoo. We have such a good time!

Here's VBS pics currently on our web site (last year's): http://www.users.muohio.edu/georgepj/vbs.html

A couple of weeks ago when we were in Oklahoma doing VBS with the Choctaw Indians, there was a church there that did something I had never seen. They had turtle races. Each team painted their turtle on Thursday and on Friday, they raced. I didnt get to see the race, but did get to paint GODSPEED on the back of one lady's turtle. (That was his name, lol)
    I love VBS!
Tiny, PLEASE be sure to include a picture of that hair!!
