 Those Dems are pretty dim. I wonder how on earth it ended up on a college - surely someone knew better.

Oh, I don't know, this was probably intentional to make young people believe Abraham Lincoln was a Democrat. So much for "higher" education.

Can’t be. That would mean that colleges (at least some) are less than honest and try to influence a generation to adopt their ideology by rewriting history to suit their views. I can’t imagine anything like that happening here in America.

"if" that is true that is a much worse indictment of this institution. There seems to be a lack of critical thinking skills involved with this. using the word "Democrat" with an upper case "D" does not communicate this idea. Whatever the issue was they wanted to communicate this was a very poor way to do it. Especially for a college.

Some background

http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/government/ss/University-Building-Dedicated-to-Abraham-Lincoln-Democrat.htm

Basically the building was purchased by the university in the 60's, it was built in 1905, and the plaque was already on the building. From the article it was supposedly to honor Lincoln's small d, democrat ideals not his political party.

Even still, it's a pretty funny coincidence of history, especially at a university in Illinois nonetheless.

It took 108 years for someone to notice this?

That's the most bogus "explanation" I've ever had the displeasure to force my eyes to translate. So this "small-d" democrat nonsense just explains itself to any ethereally thinking passer-by? We automatically know that the plaque isn't saying what it clearly says? And when the university bought the building in 1969, it didn't feel it was incumbent upon it to attempt to clear up any potential confusion and 1) take the plague down, or 2) put up another plaque with the so-called "explanation"
on it?

Horse-hockey!!

I have not seen anyone claim a conspiracy and liberals who want ( political and social equality) are always trying to claim some political kinship with Lincoln and Reagan. However, at the time they lived the very same type of liberals hated them.

Yes, lets not forget the KKK and the Democrat party in the 50s and 60s. I'm sure they want to forget it.
