    Thank God for this song by Petra. It describes the self-righteous Christian church of today.

    Since the lyrics say nothing of God, Jesus Christ, or the Holy Spirit, I see no Christian value in it. It doesn't describe a Christian church at all.

    Oh, but it does descibe alot of self righteous churches that are scattered around the world....

    You're right... The song describes a church where Jesus is standing on the outside knocking on the door... but the door is locked to people that are different from them....

    And the value of the song is in the fact that it should open eyes to what is wrong in churches today...

    We lock ourselves inside and argue over stupid things like CCM, Long hair, pants on women, Bible versions and all other kinds of things, while the world is going to Hell on our doorsteps. Shame on us for not recognizing the truth.

    AMEN tinytim! You've spoken great truth, and it's never been more clear to me than recently. Our local baptist mission was starving for a music program. My family stepped up to the plate and we have fallen in love with the people there. Most are homeless, addicts, destitute. All are smelly, but ya know what? They're the most loving, appreciative, unspoiled, friendliest folk you would ever meet. They've been learning to love the Lord -- two salvations and baptisms this month alone! We wouldn't trade this opportunity for anything in the world.

    Amen and AMEN! I love the song that says, "My house is full but My fields are Empty." While we're arguing over these issues, people are suffering and dying without the Lord. Lets get off our duffs, out of our comfort zones, put legs to our prayers and help/witness to these people. There is NO greater blessing ...

    Thanks for the post TinyTim!! I am a huge fan of some of the classic ccm songs. I also watched the Mylon Lefevre video. Excellent testimony of God rescuing yet another prodigal son to use his talents for the kingdom. For those that disagree with the style, you are only cheating yourselves of some marvellous messages.

    Haven't heard that one in a LOOONG time. It's a good one. Petra's not one of my favorites, but they had some good songs in their day.

    I agree that there are many Christians who show up at church and want to do things the way they have always been done at that church for 50 years. The hymn books, the carpets, the flowers, the paint on the wall is more important than the people. They will say," I wonder why we don't grow?" but are allergic to people who are different, those who live down the street, smoke, etc.

    It is a new song to me too..
    I just named this thread this because that is what this teen named it on youtube.

    Most new teenagers cannot remember the world without cell phones, or emails...

    Man am I old.

    What is offensive is a boneheaded comment like that one. IOW, If I do not like this then I am self righteous?
    I read your lyrics, and did you the courtesy of at least listening to the song all the way through. I do not like it. So according to you, I am self righteous?

    On the contrary buddy boy. It is YOU who are self righteous to even make such a comment or to harbour such an attitude within your heart. Shame on you. And you are a pastor??? No wonder the modern church is weak and ineffective.

    Let me tell you WHY I do not like it. It is because in its substance it is NO DIFFERENT than "Dust in The Wind" by Kansas. I smoked a great many refers to that song back in my day and THIS one reminds me of the same kind of milque toast feel good "spirituality" of the Kansas pablum.

    So, there you have it. This offering of yours is identical to a "stoner" band of the 70's and 80's. Nothing "christian" about it at all.

    Hey, I did not say if you don't like the song you are self righteous...
    I said IF you are self righteous you might not like the song.

    IOWS I know many that don't like that style, but they are not Self righteous.
    But if someone that is self righteous listens to it, they will be offended.

    My logic is something like:
    All Black dogs are dogs,
    But all dogs are not black.

    Just because you don't like the song doesn't mean you are self righteous, but I would find it extremly difficult to believe that a self righteous person would like the song. But it could be possible.

    I didn't mean to offend anyone.
    Sorry if I seemed self righteous.
    Or even confused!!!!

    Can you tell me how that song is even similar to "Dust in the Wind"

    Well it sure SEEMED similar to an old former stony.

    The line "All we are is dust in the wind" I guess is what strikes me as a milque toast attempt at saying something "spurtchal". It is IMO no different than "rose colored stained glass windows".

    In any case, I would not call the OP song anything remotely close to christian.

    Stick the Phil Collins song, "Another Day in Paradise" in for Dust in the Wind, and your post hit the nail on the head.

    It's popular to bash the church in favor of the new worship.

    The organization described in the OP is not a Church, but a social club disguised as a church.... we have plenty of those around. Both liberal and conservative.
