I don't know if this is the proper forum.
My travelling days are over and there's only so much you can learn over wires.

I seek information about Rev. Samuel Loudermilk, born 1859 in North Carolina.
He later lived with his mother Fannie Loudermilk in Nashville in the 1880s, who may have been a widow.
He may have been the nephew of Capt. Garner Loudermilk, Thomas Legion, Confederate States Army.
Sometime in the late 1880s or early 90s he married Sarah Powers, daughter of Isham Powers in Waverly Tennessee, before moving to St Andrews Florida.
About 1900 he became pastor of the first church in the town of Fellsmere Florida, and was later pastor of a Baptist church until his death in the 1930s.

I seek any information about which seminary he attended in Tennessee or his later service as a pastor. Please PM.

    I am his great grandson.

    God bless

Can you provide the middle name or initial? Sometimes that helps.

I never met Reverend Sam, he died before my birth, but I once sat in his last church in Indian River County Florida. He worked a farm when he wasn't ministering to his flock.
His children were Samuel, Oscar and Jenny (my grandmother).
If my great grandfather married or buried any of your kinfolk I would dearly love to hear from you, and may the circle be unbroken.

    In loving memory Rev. Samuel

The 1935 state census in Florida lists a Rev. S.L. Loudermilk in Quay precinct.

    This link

    http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~flindigs/newsletters/Archives/2006_09.pdf

shows that a Rev. S.L. Loudermilk was pastor of Quay Baptist Mission Church, which was established in 1912 and later became First Baptist Church of Winter Park.

    Another site

shows that his name was removed from the voting rolls in 1940 because he had died or moved.

    A genealogical site at

    http://www.mindspring.com/~jtfleming/jf-5.htm

claims that the family in question was living in Georgia and the Rev. S.L. Loudermilk talked them into moving to Winter Park, Fla., to raise vegetables.

History of First Baptist Church of Southport, Bay County, Florida

notes that Grassy Point Baptist Church (which later became Southport, First) moved to a new location in 1902 and the pastor was S.L. Loudermilk.

Not what you asked for exactly, but maybe it will help.

Thank you rsr, those are his churches after Fellsmere.
He was a pioneer in that part of Florida which was once a vast malarial swamp.
An Australian magnate helped develop the area in the 1900s.

The Winter Beach church was the one I once visited.

I used to think I was a hot researcher....

Garner Loudermilk was one of the US Army officers who took the Cherokee to Arkansas during the Trail of Tears, before resigning his commission to join the Confederate Army.

    thank you and God bless

edit> took a while to find but that was a great story about the Holmes Family! Thanks Jerome and rsr
