Many years ago - I watched a Billy Graham movie
It was about this couple who attended a BG crusade.

Well, they drove home and when they pulled into their driveway -
They decided they needed to accept the Lord.

The husband prayed - he said - "WE repent of our sins.....
the wife did not pray anything at all!
So was the wife born again, based on her husbands prayer?

Acts 16:31 states - Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved, and thine house"

I don’t believe the wife was saved by the husbands prayer, and neither was the husband saved by a prayer.

If they were saved, they were saved by God Holy Spirit drawing them, convicting them of the truth of who Jesus is and what Jesus did, enabling them to respond with faith in Jesus and then receiving Holy Spirit indwelling.

The Acts 19 passage means all in the household that believe in Jesus will be saved.

Did she believe in her heart or not? Did she pray silently with her husband or not? What did the movie show? It was fictional story too. The problem is the depiction of the husband praying on behalf of his wife in the story.

The issue is whether "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ" applies not only to the husband, but also to "thy house" or "your household?" Since many verses indicate belief is a prerequisite to salvation, I agree with J. Vernon, that everyone believing into Him shall have eternal life.

I would say that at that particular moment she was likely not Saved.

At the same time I believe there is a very strong biblical case that if the Head of the Family (Man) is Saved, then his children and wife have a much higher chance of being Saved. The man doesn't save the wife or kids, but he can lead them to Christ who will Save.

I saw that movie about 40 years ago - so I dont remember all the details -It seems she did not make any verbal prayer about repentance - it appeared she w

As for the Bible passage....here's my belief. The jailer's belief in Christ had nothing to do with the salvation of his family. The salvation of one person does not bounce and richochet off the walls and hit others.

"And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house."

• The jailer asked first for himself. What must *I* do to be saved.
• Paul explained the essence of salvation - believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.
• Then he spoke what I believe is a prophetic word - he said the jailer's household would be saved.
• And they were... AFTER Paul and Silas preached to them.

Salvation is an individual thing.

They were born again or they would not have considered "accepting the Lord". Jesus says whoever believes is saved. So Billy's converts were saved before they ever "went forward" but got into works salvation by "going forward" thinking they saved themselves by doing so.

It's not just about going forward but about making decisions to "accept Christ". They in essence think they saved themselves by doing this. Are they saved by trusting in their decision instead of Christ? Christ says whoever believes is saved. You must be saved, that is, you must believe in Christ, or you would not "choose to believe" and end up trusting in that act of the will instead of Christ.
