Anne Lamott

She is one of the if not the most honest Christian writers I have ever read. She is not afraid to show her dark side as well as her good side. Few people will do that. She has learned keen insights through her mistakes.

Would that more Christians were as or half as openly honest as Ann Lamott is.

By the way, her "Bird By Bird" on writing is excellent.

 

I read all of that article. I guess his review of Lamott's material is summed up with his statement :"She celebrates things the Bible forbids and hates things the Bible commands us to love."

 

Read her books, not articles about her before making a decision.

Like I said she is very honest voicing thoughts many Christians have from time to time but are afraid to admit them either to themselves and most especially not to others.

Her appeal is her honesty.

 

Ann, in all honesty your criticism should be universal to all of us, including yourself. No matter how hard any of us try we all pick and choose things we believe and like to stay away from that which makes us feel uncomfortable. But none of us have arrived and on the journey God will make us feel uncomfortable when he shows us where we need to be stretched, where the rough edge need to be smoothed. Such growth is painful. . So maybe you disagree with her. She in turn might say that you hold a low view of scripture. Accusing another proves nothing.

Perhaps if you read her books in the order she wrote them [and I do not mean her fiction] but her memoirs and see how far she has come you might be a bit more understanding and forgiving.

I would leave that decision up to God.

 

So did I. His method of salvation is spelled out quite completely.

Somehow I doubt she's liquidated all of her assets and given it to the poor. I doubt you have done it as well, C.T.Boy.

She also denies the literal Hell, that the Bible teaches us.

She calls Earth her "mother".

She writes for the "Progressive Christianity" platform that you worked pretty hard to distance yourself from when I found this nugget on their website…..

According to the Bible, many of the religions of the Middle East practiced human sacrifice, but God would not allow the Israelites to practice it. So if God truly abhorred the practice and refused to allow human sacrifice, how can we justify the claim that God sacrificed Jesus for the atonement of our sins?

British theologian Nathaniel Micklem said, “We pervert the idea of God if we allow ourselves to suppose that God did not and could not forgive sins apart from the death of Christ.” We limit God if we suggest that God would not forgive our sins without Jesus’ sacrificial death. Besides, Jesus never called himself “the Lamb of God,” who was sacrificed for the sins of the world…..

No, she didn't write those words, but they are from a "Progressive" Christianity site that YOU introduced us to. Same theology. Same practice. Same unregenerate teachings.

Is it your desire to see people saved, or make them feel better about themselves on the way to Hell ?

 

Never heard of her. After reading this thread, I'm positive I haven't missed out on anything.
