how many here believe you have to show God a true changed life, how many here believe that you have to show true repentance and try as hard as you can to turn from your sin? is this a legalist way to salvation? is it straighten up and believe, or is it trust in Jesus and His work on the cross for salvation only?

I don't believe that we could ever be good enough on our own to earn salvation. However, once we become a Christian, the Bible teaches that we become a new creation and that our desire becomes different and we will want to please G-d. We want to please G-d because he has changed our lives; not Change our lives to please G-d and then be saved. I hope this makes sense.

    1 Cor. 5:17
a changed life is not for gaining salvation, it is the result of salvation. a changed life shows who we really are, or rather whose we really are. We can never do anything that warrants salvation, but once we have it(free gift from God), Jesus in us causes a different life style, a changed heart.

Never judge a book by its cover. All change is from within, and there is no list that can be created for "others" to judge Christians by.

This manmade "list" of changed behavior is what determines church membership, not Christ membership.

How can anyone "show" God anything? He already knows!

You don't have to 'straighten up' and believe. You have to give up and believe.

It is a matter of quitting trying to be good on your own, acknowledging that it's impossible, and asking Jesus to please take over.

You thought you didn't like what you saw in yourself before? Just wait until you get a new heart from God when you are born again. Then you will have an even better idea of how odious you were, and then you will know the meaning of real repentance! Repentance isn't something you TRY to do or show, it is the result of seeing yourself as you really are and spiritually throwing up.

And when you are born again, the Holy Spirit, indwelling you, starts to change you bit by bit. Your behavior and attitudes and words are changed from the inside out then. It is not you 'trying' to do anything to change. You ARE changed, and even though there is still a battle with the flesh, the new heart and renewed spirit are under control of God and you do learn how to deal with the flesh as you become stronger spiritually.

So the actions come. But they are not a matter of showing God anything. They are a matter of God showing Himself -- through you.
