Any fish lovers out there? (the aquarium kind not the eating kind)

Does anybody have any type of aquarium experience? I have a wicked algae problem that will not go away?

 

Well I have a 20 gallon aquarium with 16 assorted fish. They are alive and seem healthy considering what they swim in. My water is basically green throughout. I've used countless algae destroyers. They work for a little while but it comes right back, with a vengence I might add. I also have used this product called Algone. It's supposed help suck up some of the nutrients the algae feeds on. It seems to help a little.

Lastly I have a Whisper Power Filter 20, but algae seems to grow on it faster than inside the tank. I feed them 2-3 times a day with what they can consume in about a minute or two. I also change about 5 gallons of the water every week or so. They say it helps to vacuum the gravel.

Any help with this is apreciated. I love my tank and I want it to look good. It's so embarassing when people drop by the house to see a green tank.
