Any frog/toad experts in here?

I would guess a tree frog, simply by the little suction cups on his feet.

 

It looks like a male gray tree frog. I say male because of the vocals...but if they don't have one and when it comes to these critters and you don't know male or female, look at the thumb pads. Males have an obviously enlarged thumb pad.

Frogs can have bumps just like toads, but yours looks pretty smooth and has pretty long hind legs. Most toads I've seen are pretty bumpy and have shorter hind legs, though a few do have longer ones.

However, the markings on the back legs scream tree frog. Carpenter frog was a thought, but the markings are not quite right because of the black and because of the more specific coloring in his back and looks, from the picture, like there's absolutely no webbing.

The coloring is for camouflage in trees, the other coloring likely is to make predators think it is poisonous.

I think. I could always be wrong. I just had a long frog discussion with the zoology students a couple weeks ago. LOL Good timing...

BTW they soak in air and water through their skin and any contaminant dangerous to them would get into the bloodstream rather fast. So if there was soap on your hands or residue or some other chemical in the water or sink, it would be potentially fatal to the frog. Hopefully it caused froggy hallucinations and he went out thinking he was catching the ultimate, gigantic fly. :flower:

We have a little creek by our house that attracts all sorts of "critters." The creek is just from water run-off from the mountain, so it's usually quite shallow and relaxing to listen to. It is very interesting to go outside at any given time and look for tadpoles, toads, crawdads, frogs, chipmunks, squirrels, and an occasional possom, snake or raccoon. Our kids have learned a lot about those things and they enjoy it.

It's unbelievable the screaming noise they can make for such a tiny critter.

After rains in particular they come out screaming and courting all night long and lay eggs in our rain barrels which make tadpoles which make more tree frogs.

I was tidying up our outside shelter before company arrived Saturday and discoverd this little fellow in the SS sink, it had changed to nearly the same color as the sink, they're like chameleons and camoflage to their surroundings, it's why you hardly ever see them. I've seen them camflaged perfectly on potato vine leaves in my garden, very difficult to see though. My wife caught and released this one to the flower bed.
