I've been playing for around four years now. Taylor tastes - Epiphone budget. They are really pretty fair guitars for the money, but a Taylor would be sweet. Any good instructional tapes, books, websites you could recommend?

Looks like more bird watchers that guitarists. Surely as sign of the approaching apocolypse!

Well I tried to learn, but the Lord obviously gave me a gift with piano and singing rather than guitar. I was given a piano for Christmas over a year ago, and within the first day I was playing "Amazing Grace,", and now I can play any hymn after hearing it once or twice. I can sing a song after hearing it once or twice,as well, but the guitar is a puzzelment to me. I just can't get my fingers right to hear the cords. If I can't hear how something is sang or played I can't figure it out. I can't read a lick of music, so I have to use my ear when it comes to something like that.
If someone can figure out that guitar, I'll consider you a genious!

For what it's worth, I play. Have an electric (acoustic) National that's been a faithful workhorse for 20 years.

Bought a 12 string and enjoy the sound but man, the callouses on my finger tips are NOT in the right place for those extra strings!! Pain city and I don't like singin' the blues!

I've been playing 8-9 years or so at a guess.

I have Samick 6 & 12 string acoustics, and Jap '60s reissue photoflame Fender Stratocaster. When I want to annoy people I plug in through Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp.

My favourite weapon is a 15,000 chords book.

If your computer is a windows box I recommend Nut Chords, a brilliant piece of software for finding chords and scales.

http://www.olga.net/ is a great site for chords and tabs to all sorts of old and new songs.

A previous Church used a lot of new songs, I found practicing with the CD a good way to learn them.

Work on playing with thumb and fingers to bring as much of melody out as possible in chords instead of just rhythm.

The most important guitar lesson is Colossians 3:17 [IMG]
