I bought a recertified Mini. It worked fine in the store but when I got it home it won't work with my monitor (Kogi L7EH-TA). Monitor works fine with my MacBook though.

Any ideas before I go out and buy a new monitor?

I would like one. All you need is a special switch to use it with your current monitor but you need a mac keyboard and mouse I think.

I've had one for over 3 years now~you don't need a mac KB/Mouse~~I'm using a Microsoft KB & Logitech mouse.

Regarding the monitor~sometimes they have a analog & digital options, you want to make sure you're in the right one.

These folks will definitely have the answers:

When you say "re-certified" do you mean it was apple refurbished or used and re-certified by a third party?

YOu do need a DVI to VGA adaptor that comes with them new.
If you do not have them, any third party adaptor should work and they are not that expensive.

If you get a new monitor, just get one with DVI, most new ones have it anyway.

Also, you need USB keyboards and mice, not appple or mac specific ones.
YOu can also get an adaptor for PS2 to USB if you want to use an older keyboard and mouse.

Oh, and I am on my second Mac Mini. I got my first one 5 years ago when they first came out and i have an intel one now.

    Great little machines.

A Mac Mini? Well, there's only about 1/5th of a pound of beef in a Big Ma... oh, wait, you mean the OTHER Mac.

I found out the monitor was too old to work with the Mini. Got a good deal on a new monitor. Loving the mini.

what type of monitor was too old to work with the mini? It should work with just about any monitor.

It was an old Kogi flat panel. Seems that it and the Mac Mini would not talk to each other. Something to do with the Kogi not sending the proper signals to the Mac to let it know it was there or something to that effect.

    That is interesting.

I have connected many monitors to my mac mini but I actually can see how that could happen. The Mac does need to detect that a monitor is present.

It then automatically turn it on and or expands the desktop.

Usually it is a great feature. Just not in your case.

Oh, and have used a kogi monitor with macs come to think of it. maybe not with a mini though, can't remember.

The Kogi works fine with my MacBook. Just not with the Mini. Go figure.

I think I understand that too, it is probably because you are using an adaptor with the macbook which the laptop detects. The adaptor on the mini is passive and that is probably why it does not detect that it is there.

No, you can still use a windows keyboard, it is just that two keys are switched around but you can change that in the preferences.
Even then they will still not be labeled correctly but they will work.
The only thing that is really a problem is that you need USB for both the keyboard and mouse. If can you PS2 with an adaptor but most people would rather put the 10 bucks they would spend on the adaptor toward a new mouse and KB.
Esp if they already have one that is USB.

My mac mini that I am typing this on has only two parts that are apple.

The Mini itself and I did buy one of the new flat apple keyboard, though for years I actually used a Microsoft keyboard that I really liked.

I use a logitech mouse (same mouse with all of my macs for the last 8 years)
I have a Dell flatpanel monitor.
M-Audio studio monitors for my speakers.
I use an M-Audio Firewire 410 as my sound device
I boot from an external OWC Firewire Hard Drive.
I also have a LaCie Firewire DVD burner.

Of course my Printer/scanner unit is an HP and I use iSync to keep my Nokia cell phone synchronized with iCal and address book on the Mac.
