Any truth to this view?

On the radio coming home the other day, they had a coach on telling of the different in coaching today and of being an AD. He said you had to keep players out of trouble and have most of your players finish school and there were less fans, sports writers, and no sports talk radio where most of them all believe they know more than you and HS coaches who believed that they knew more than you. And coaches made a lot less money.
In a joking way he said he never understood union workers, government workers, teachers and a professor pushing for a coach to lose his job, because of how hard it was for them to lose their job. He said he could understand a salesman calling for a coach to lose his job, because as a salesman you can be number one this year and out on your ear nexts year.
On an AD, he said as long as he was good at bringing in the money, he was in good shape.
