    i'm a fan of it - i'd play it if it was free. but i don't play it. simply cause i don't have the money - and my laptop doesn't have the right specs to play. lol.

    BUT - i do play Guild Wars - if you've ever heard of it.
    all three chapters --> Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall - and soon to come - the expansion - Eye of the North (not a chapter)

    AND the later to come - Guild Wars 2 - which will be kinda like WoW - but better - AND FREE!! no monthly payments - which was stressed over and over in the april edition of pc gamer. (i don't have it - but i've read alot about it.)

    anybody who likes those kind of games - i'd say guild wars is the best out there - no grinding (continuously doing the same thing over and over) - lots of story and plot - good graphics.

    good all around =P

    i don't expect many to play it though... haha. but if anybody on here does - let me know - i'm in need of giving some items away...

    I've played WoW off and on since release, and several other MMO's before it. I feel that God has been very patiently working on me to get away from them. They are huge timesinks, it is rare to get an opportunity to witness to or encourage someone in the game, and the many pagan elements in the lore bother me.

    Many of these games also contribute to what I see as a growing cultural confusion between good and evil. The game usually refers to good things as "light" and evil things as "dark," with the differences shallow, often really meaningless. One can easily find oneself playing the role of a "tauren," which is a minotaur from Greek mythology, or an "Undead," (basically a zombie or walking corpse), or a "Dranei," with horn-like hair, tentacle-like beard, hooves for feet (like the pagan deity Pan), and a scaly, lizard-like tale. It can remind one of a caricature of a certain fallen angel I can think of... And then there is the warlock class, with which one summons and controls "demons"....

    It's all pretty dark, imho, and I am trying to leave it once and for all. The game is very addicting, and this by itself is reason enough to steer clear. I don't judge anyone that plays or enjoys this game, I'd just like to warn others of my experience: a lot of life passed during the years that this and similar games were my chief hobby, years that I could have spent serving the Lord in a more profitable way or participating in healthier, more fruitful hobbies.

    I really appreciate those thoughts and the way they were put. I do find the danger of time wasting and have to watch that myself. I see your concerns about the darkness, but see the setting as "only a game" and honestly don't see any effect on my spiritual life, except when I waste time there. Maybe you comments are why my favourite character is a human warrior ;).

    We tend to play it as a family game. My wife and I almost always play our characters together, and we even play at times with our son and his wife who are 100 miles away. We find that aspect enjoyable.

    If I were still an economics teacher I could see this as a potential learning tool on supply and demand in the auction house. I honestly enjoy the economy aspect of the game. As an educational tool I think one could use it to teach geography as the maps are quite well done and realistic.

    The key problem, IMHO and in accord with you initial statement, is the time wasting aspect.

    Thanks again for you balanced input and for expressing your views in a Christian manner. We could all learn from your example.
