My wife is struggling with a severe illness that stops her from any exposure (and I mean any) to the sun. So we're unable to keep up our tradition of cruising. Nothing since the Spring of 2007 (15 days to HAwaii and back) so I am going thru withdrawal.

ANYONE want to share cruise experiences or plans? I'm about ready to hop a ship on my own and enjoy a couple weeks at sea. Going anywhere, any time.

We would love to go on a cruise. We had thought about heading out towards the Mediterranean maybe next Spring if dh can get the medical ins to travel. We have never been on a cruise before.

For a first cruise, I'd suggest a simple week in the eastern Caribbean. You will be in calm waters, test your sea legs and see if cruising is for you.

We've been on ten in the past 7 years and never had a bad time.

The WORST day on a cruise is better than the BEST day at home. ;)

    It does sound really nice.

Unfortunately, we do our cruising in a motor home, and are planning about a 3000 mile trip, to Utah, New Mexico, & Texas.....in the spring.

The Caribbean waters are mostly calm, beautiful turquoise in color, and teaming with life.

And if you can get past the fact that a lot of it is in the Bermuda Triangle, you can have a great time......(just kidding, folks)

And you leave everything to them, and your job is to just enjoy yourself.....

I hope things turn for the better, and you get out to sea.

Dr Bob, your suggestion sounds lovely but dh can't get medical ins to cover a trip to the US at the moment. We thought it might be easier and more practical to stay within the EU as we are in the UK.

    Blessings

My bride and I are cruising over Thanksgiving week. All the kids are at the "wicked" in -laws :tear: . We also use the Royal Caribbean credit card so after 3 years we are finally getting a free 4 night cruise.

This will be our 13th, so if we weren't able to cruise, we would go through the same withdrawl, Dr. Bob. Praying for your wife.

So sorry to hear about your wife. Hope & pray that she recovers. We went back to Alaska this summer -- got a reasonably good deal - plus used air miles so we didn't have to pay for air fare. We used the $$ instead for the excursions. Despite some of the rainy weather, we had a great time and in Vancouver pre/post cruise. We had three of the best excursions we'd ever taken -- riding in a float plane between the fjords (majestic!), canoeing past pieces ice right up to a glacier as it's coming into the water (freezing), and a helicopter ride to the top of a glacier & then dogsledding (the best). Also, surprisingly good entertainment on board -- the best in years.

This is the old dock at Cozumel. Along with two Royal Caribbean ships dwarfing the bride and me.

That doct was turned into rubble by the waves during a hurricane 3 years ago. We returned, had to take a small boat into shore, and saw the broken concrete/re-bar and were amazed at the power of the storm.

Great pictures showing the strength of the hurricane. Here is a picture of the top of the glacier where we went dogsledding. No sun here.
