Anyone CROCHET for a hobby?

I crochet and I love it. I'm presently working on a crochet blanket of the American flag. I've done one for my Pastor and 2 for missionaries that came to visit us for revivals.
Personally the activity calms meand relaxes me. Gives me a chance to sit.

My 11 year old daughter crochets and knits and is very good at it. Right now,she is making a scarf with neat looking multicolored furry yarn and pink fur stuff...she is crocheting them together. It is really cute!

She has also crocheted purses with beads. She makes really cute things! She designs them herself,not using any pattern or directions at all. I'm impressed!

I love to crochet and knit, but haven't done so since I had my third. That's when I hung up my hooks and needles and am now saving them for the rocker and grandbabies. I have taught my daughters, though. My oldest loves to crochet, but actually prefers to cross stitch. She has a few projects going right now.

 

I crochet but I prefer delicate thread. I love filet crochet when it is done more finely than work done in Knit-Cro-Sheen.

I used a pattern from the forties and made an afghan for my husband that is all single crochet but had a raised pattern diagonally every row. It is rows of colors, each pattern in it starts dark in the center and gradually out to light in various shades of the same color.


I think I have crocheted the Indian blanket also. The one I did had the same pattern that forms rows of raised diamonds. Is that the one you mean?

Oops, after reading these, I have a cross stitch nativity to finish and ..... nevermind

I love it when kids take an interest. I try to teach my granddaughter to crochet, she wants to learn to crochet in thread, she just can't keep still long enough. I love crocheted purses. I bet they are so cute and kids can be so creative, I love that about them.

I am self taught but the one thing I can not figure out is tatting. I want to learn that, I could learn if I ever saw it done. I learn by watching. The step by step books just don't work for me but I think it is so pretty.

 

Sue I had to ask the hubby how long it took. Having a senior moment there. He said it took about a month. It really isn't hard to raise the pattern just yo insert the hook in the stitch above, dc then single below. It is a variation of the popcorn stitch. That thing is heavy though. He loves it. I have patterns, though they may be what you already have.

I tend to like detailed things so I have some intricate patterns. Give me an idea of what you might be interested in and I might have something for you. My sister crocheted a bible cover also.

Which reminds me I have an aghan started that is water lillies on pads I need to finish. Love that one but it is not a simple one. Are you looking for thread or yarn patterns? I also have some cornucopia, fan and snowflake patterns. One snowflake I give as a gift looks like a spider web. I make those beaded spiders and give with "the legend of the Christmas spider".

I like making thread crochet covers for jam jar covers. I thread them with the tiny silk ribbon cover jars and tie a bow to hold it on the jar and give as gifts. Orange marmalade, and huckleberry jam jars looks so pretty with those covers on them.

Hey, I am looking for a thread pattern for tiny bears for tree ornaments. I cannot find a pattern.

Can anyone tell from some of my artsy posts I have ADD?

Anyway, give me some idea of what you want Sue and I will see what I can find for you.

 

Sue, I would willingly look out for crochet patterns for you, but I think the stitches are named differently over there. Would you find that confusing ?

Sue, there are if I remember right about 70 afghan patterns alone! Most easy and some very pretty ones. I haven't checked there for a hat or scarves yet but if you don't find what you want there let me know . I will still go through my patterns for you. I think everyone should check this site out.

The first link was fine, the little bear is different that the white thread one I had in mind. Some little old ladies that live nearby in a big old craftsman style house have a Christmas bazzar every year to sell Christmas items. That is where I got this little bear for one of my sisters. She loves bears and angels.
One lady makes bobbin lace and intricate paper cuttings. So much fun to go. Other ladies bring their crafts too. I haven't seen the little ornaments of crochet like that for some time.

I will probably find the pattern someday at a yard sale or something.
