I've encouraged my kids to stay away from AOL, it's like an invasive virus...

It hides itself everywhere on your computer.

and it's almost impossible to get rid of.

Most people pronounce it as A-O-He... well, you get the picture.

AOL is changing. They are trying to become a net portal that is ad driven, and I've heard rumors about it merging with Yahoo.

You got that right, Tim! [IMG]

I won't even use AOL (AIM) Messenger anymore. I use Yahoo. Once you install anything of AOL, you have a very hard time getting rid of it because it installs so many compenents in so many different places. I still run across an AOL program now and then and I haven't had it for over a year!

Be careful, Roger. Be verrrrrrrry careful... [IMG]

Preciate the thoughts - loving it so far. It puts everything on one screen, browser, email, chat (dont use), and a media centre to radio, music, videos, pics, and your own files.

Hoping (fingers crossed) they did something right this time. ;)

You don't have the use the AOL client to use the service.
You can download GAIM which is a really nice adfree client that supports MSN, AIM, Yahoo and others all in the same program. I really like it.

I have been using AOL since 1994 and have not run into the problems mentioned above. If I have to uninstall, it uninstalls everything. I know, because I do searches in the Windows Explorer for trails, and in the system registry.

I have been using Open Ride for about a month now and I think it is great. I reccommend it highly.
