:( Well Folks...the current atmosphere of apostasy just took an ugly turn for the worse. While watching Fox News tonight and ENDURING all the worship being HEAPED on the pope,I got treated to several things which I just have to "vent" about.First,Pat Robertson,in a lengthy interview with Hannity and Combs proceeded to heap praise and worship on this "godly" pope and went on to say that the DOCTRINAL DIFFERENCES between Catholics and Evangelical Protestants(which in the general fuzzy definition used today also means some Baptists)DIDN'T MATTER.....What unscriptural NONSENSE!!!!!He also said that the pope was a man who had a high degree of biblical integrity with a high regard for the SCRIPTURES!!!!ON NATIONAL TV before a world wide audience!!
On another note,President Bush was quoted as saying he was attending the funeral to PAY HOMAGE to this "godly" man.
I think I want to be sick! You can bet that any of us Bible Believers that dare to come out and say that the pope and his "church" are unscriptural, ungodly, and heretical will now be viewed with even more HATE.The end-times are accelerating toward the finish with increasing speed.Even so,COME Lord Jesus!

Yeah I have heard several things in the last couple days that I did not care for...especially hearing today someone call the pope a great "evangelist".

Kudos to Pat Robertson. I've never liked the guy and his positions but maybe there is hope for fundamentalists out there.

I think the differences do matter, and I get the feeling we are missing some context to these quotes.

Wow. Kudos again if he really said that for recognizing integrity and biblical truth across the Catholic-Protestant divide.

I'm not so suprised by that. Bush has always been pretty ecumenical.

I have a thread in Baptist Theology where we are discussing Catholic doctrines. Please join us there and feel free to voice your concerns about Catholicism. Thanks.

A man who is trying to keep a reputation with the ENTIRE world is going to be put on the spot. Bush had to make some claims about Islam that I dont think he believes. Imagine getting on Fox news and telling everyone that the Pope was not a Christian. !!!!!!!!!!

That said, I think maybe Falwell is happy they didnt ask HIM what he thought..or did they????/

The most troubling statement that I have heard in the last few days is what the Pope said when he knew he was dying: "I can do more for you in heaven than what I can do for you here on earth."

Just curious, and no I'm not agreeing with any of Robertson's comments.

Can you back up the bolded claims above? Can you give examples of the above? If you cannot you need to really wonder about where the "hate" is coming from.

I saw Pat Robertson on television last night also, on the other channel "positive thinking motivational speaker" Robert Schuller was saying basically the same things as Robertson. :(

    Calm down Greg.
As far as I know few people outside the USA take Fox seriously, few people inside the USA take Pat seriously. I'd say little real damage was done.

    Ahhhhh (smacking lips).

Nothing like a good, hot, steaming cup of Anti-Catholic bigotry first thing in the morning! So refreshing.

Greg Sr., you wouldn't be related to Jack Chick or David Cloud by chance, would you?

Pat Robertson and GW Bush are both entitled to their opinions about the Pope....The only thing I wonder about is whether they can back up their words with Scripture. I would think they would be hard pressed to do so!

    Good thread Greg.

I read Gold Dragon's thread on Catholic doctrine and it has been some time since I have seen catholicisim legitimized to such an extent. After reading that thread you would want to have a bean supper with the Catholics.

Ecumenicisim is becomming more prevelant in our society. Remember there is a world wide religion that will form and it will be based on dropping the walls of sound doctrine and building bridges of love and tolerance.

We as Baptists' don't have to agree on everything but c'mon. Are we really debating whether or not catholicisim is christianity?

I have compassion as well for the loss our catholic friends are feeling but if they are our friends it is time to be truthful with them while they are still our friends.

I don't hate catholics. I hate catholicisim! It is a false religion responsible for murdering over 59 million christians during the dark ages in the name of Christ. Also millions have gone to hell believing in this false bride of Christ.

It is that cut and dry. There is no way around the fact that it is a false church. People that defend it need to make sure they are even baptists'!

    Keep preaching it Greg!

A significant number of the baptist members of this board don't see themselves as Protestants. Strangely enough they are usually the ones who are most vehemently anti-catholic.

I've already had bean suppers with Catholics before that thread....

    Yes.
Watch... Roman Catholicism is a form of Christianity. It just happens to have some truly freaky theology.
It also happens to be the largest branch of Christianiy and many of it's adherents are present in the same area as many baptists, that would be the USA.
All of these factors contribute to the especially bad image the RCC has in the eyes of many baptists.
The Eastern-Orthodox and Oriental-Orthodox churches have theology that is different but just as bad as that of the RCC. If one of the 2 had been the larger and more common in the US than the Catholics it would have taken the RCC spot in the heart of many baptists.

After the bean supper remark I'm surprised you see yourself as a friend of anybody Catholic.
