this grew from another post crediting King James with the idea.

Referencing to statement from Declaration of Independence.

Yes, all men are created in the image of God, flawed by their sin nature inherited from Adam, and in need of Saviour. Every child is born in the exact same condition.

All men are equal in God's sight.

To show partiality to one group of people is sin. James writes "If you have respect of persons you commit sin..."

All men should be equal in our sight as well.

Hey C4K, we have to look at all men as equal and show no partiality. I don't believe God does. If Calvinism is true, then He hates most of the world. He made you a Moderator and me a moderatee (if there's such a word) therefore we are not equal.

Besides, everyone knows in this world the rich people are better than us lowly folk...

We are all equal, but some are more equal than others. We are all equal in sin, but some sin more than others. In salvation we are all equal before God, but some will receive greater rewards than others.

Calvinism doesn't even enter this equation because it is an attempt to explain the plan of God in human terms and cannot be applied to every situation without other considerations. For example, God does not love the elect and hate the remainder, but rather selects some and passes by the remainder to their own perdition. There is a distinct difference.

The fact that the poorest individual can rise to the richest and most powerful person in a society explains the statement: "All men are created equal", and it cannot be in any other sense, in my opinion.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I guess all discusion can go here but can we use scripture if the reference is to the "secular" document?(did I say that?)

Good explanation Jim. I have been taught that God does hate the rest though. I know that's not the topic but it's foundational to my case (if there is one) that not all men are equal. If God hates many people, then there is no way they can be equal.

But I do appreciate your explanation. It made very good sense.

I believe people are not born equal. Some are born with one arm, some born with a dormant disease, some born with very high I.Q.s, some are born to be leaders, company heads, presidents, and some are better equipped to dig ditches, or count beans. Some are born with learning disabilities, some are born needeing intensive care for their whole lives. Some are born to be olympic athletes.

It is way too intimidating for me to even attempt to understand God's reasons for who he chooses to do what. I just praise him that he gave me the gifts he did.

maybe off topic but where does it say God hates anyone?

It says God hates some people in the Bible. If you can't find it anywhere I will get you a few references.

Actually, I don't believe it is off topic because it is foundational I think to the issue.

If I don't find any NT references (I may) that doesn't matter. God can't go from hating people in the OT to loving everyone in the NT. Know what I mean?

    Psalm 5:5
    Deu. 9:28; Rom. 9:13
    Hos. 9:15
    Mal. 1:3

This is all I could find right now. I'm sure there are more.

ok, man what did Esau do? this is the only one as far as I can tell where it is actually God saying it the others are talking for God. not that it matters. I guess the equality must lie in the fact that every one has opprotunity to make it right with God. You know those who so ever verses.
But again can I bring up: Is this what we are talking about or is it reference to what those who put it in the Declaration of Independence?

    Sorry...I don't quite understand your question. :(

As for Esau, he didn't do anything. God said He hated him and loved Jacob before they were born...before they did anything good or bad.

Yeah I know those whosoever verses. I'm not fully convinced of Calvinism myself. I'm just using the possibility of it as support for my case. If Calvinism is true, then I believe that we are not created equal.
